Emily's List on Biden and Hyde

For Immediate Release

June 5, 2019

EMILY's List Statement on Biden's Support for Hyde Amendment

WASHINGTON, D.C. – In response to an NBC news story confirming Vice President Biden's support for the Hyde Amendment, EMILY's List President Stephanie Schriock released the following statement:

“At a time when reproductive rights are under consistent attack, it’s unacceptable that a major Democratic nominee supports the Hyde Amendment. This amendment, which blocks federal funding for abortion services with few exceptions and effectively bans abortion for women on Medicaid, which has a disproportionate impact on young women and women of color. Americans overwhelmingly support women’s rights to make their own health care choices and Democrats made repealing the Hyde Amendment part of our 2016 platform. We hope that Vice President Biden will reconsider this position and what it means to millions of women. There’s simply too much at risk.”

Likely by then the silliness will be reaching phenomenal heights but I will have an idea of what I am looking for and with whom I think I will get it. I pretty much know who my "noes" are for, especially one who will not lead us progressively onward and there are certainly several but I am willing to be back and forth except for this one person. I think I will stay out until I have a better feel. It certainly is wonderful to have so many to choose from and there are so many more this time that follow a true progressive path and excited about moving us forward for all.

My ignore list is pretty big, I should check it. Usually half of them are gone by the time I get around to that. Yes, I do believe it is a good thing now, after last election I KNOW it has value!

See ya soon.

A few weeks ago, Joe Biden told our #RightsforAll volunteer Nina in South Carolina that as president, he would end the Hyde amendment, which blocks access to abortion for low income women who can’t pay out of pocket.

But his campaign has now told NBC he still supports Hyde.

Access to abortion should not depend on where a person lives or how much money a person makes. We urge @JoeBiden, and every other candidate, to ensure reproductive freedom for ALL.

His stance is absolutely unacceptable in a 2019 Democratic candidate.

I really like Joe, but I really hate the Hyde Amendment and especially it's effect on the young and poor. If he doesn't see the ight, I may have to go for another candidate. Although there is no candidate I am 100% behind. Warren has the best policies but jumps too fast before getting all the facts at times, Harris put parents in jail because their kids skipped school, Sanders - well just forget about the only sometimes Democrat and sometimes cares about women and sometimes doesn't and most of his staff didn't vote for the Democratic nominee so just hell no, Mayor Pete - if Biden doesn't change on Hyde, Mayor Pete and Senator Warren are my top 2.

Fucking damn!

latest stats show around 640,000 abortions a year.

Assume half need some form of monetary assistance to afford the procedure.

Assume the procedure for these people costs an average of $2000.

that's $640M dollars a year

Everyone who votes D in the election will be encouraged to donate $1 a month to a gofundme page for people seeking abortions.

After all, we are the party of choice so we should also be in favor of funding same.

$1 a month x 66,000,000 voters is more than the estimated $640M a year required... we use the excess for sex education and contraceptives (free) to any woman who wants it and can't afford it.

There... Hyde amendment intact... single issue evangelicals and Catholics can still vote "D" (and we won't make them pay into the gofundme.. others will take up the slack) and we remove this as an issue.

Access to legal and safe abortions, otoh, is a must win for us.. and is currently threatened by Trump and his very conservative supreme court picks.

I'll sign up for this... Emily's list can run the gofundme (although I would prefer Planned Parenthood).

I already contribute $50 a year to PP just because... not that I'm in need of their services... I do have a couple of nieces that do. Another $12 a year isn't going to break me.

will it be justice when DJT wins a second term and appoints another right wing SCOTUS and then there will BE NO RIGHT to an abortion no matter who pays for it?

Justice for the women who are in JAIL right now because of miscarriages.

So ideological purity on this issue even if it costs us the support of those who might otherwise vote for a Democrat and rid ourselves of Trump.

because Biden is just like Trump...

I've heard that before... it got us W in 2000 over Gore and Trump in 2016 over Hillary (who, while stating she was opposed to the Hyde amendment, wasn't really going to be able to do anything about it and, as I recall, didn't make it a central theme to her campaign)

Unless Biden wins the nomination, I can not never support him, but if he does win, then I will hold my nose (NOT just on that) and obviously vote for him in general.
