(7,888 posts)is bashing Dems. Your plea suggests we have a weak candidate unable to win on their own merits. This is not a position of strength in upcoming elections. imo

(12,328 posts)or what networks decide to air. And I could give two shits about whats on Drudge.
Heres the reality: Biden and his gaffe are in the news. It is natural that we would talk about it. And, yes, some people will have strong opinions about it.
What would you suggest we do instead? Im really curious.
Because if a discussion board cannot have discourse that accommodates a spectrum of democratic views, no one will want to participate. We are commenting on whats in the news. Would you have us not talk about it? Or, when we do speak of Biden, should there be a requirement that we dont acknowledge what is happening around us?
If we dont talk about current events and our reaction to them, whats the point?
If Biden does something great or a poll comes out that favors him, I acknowledge it. I celebrate it because I know it makes his supporters feel great. And sometimes I have strong opinions about whats in the news. IMHO, Biden needs to make some positive news or just different news to drown out or at least sand down the edges of the negative. He nor his people are active on social channels in a way thats effective and that gives him presence. While viral moments are difficult to predict or manufacture, he needs to stay active. Something will stick. Warren and Buttigieg are two candidates who are killing it on social media. I hope he learns from them.
Besides, DU has fantastic guidelines and rules that have evolved over years. They are guardrails and they spell out what is not allowed. The system is working.
On edit: judging by upthread posts, discussions and criticism are causing some supporters to cleave more strongly to Biden. Thats great! Thats what democracy and free expression are all about.

(15,426 posts)We don't 'do' ad hominem, but we sure need to be able to argue policies. I am supporting Warren and Buttigieg now, both for what I think are good reasons, but neither of them are (or should be) immune from criticism of their past actions, votes or legislation.
Sure, if Biden wins, I will definitely, without equivocation, support him tooth and nail. But we'll see how the primaries go, see who emerges as the leader. See who finally becomes our nominee. Then we have to put them in the White House.

(20,595 posts)He has been successful in politics for decades and has a record stretching back decades. No one else in the race outside Bernie has that.
So what happens to him is that a lot of his past positions, statements and ideas from those earlier times which might have been considered reasonable then end up being juxtaposed against the current culture and those things sometimes dont align.
I would expect this dynamic to continue as his opponents continue to dig into his record. The question is can he weather it. I happen to think he can and probably will.

(9,090 posts)democrats need to stop ignoring RW radio. drudge was created to feed 1500 radio stations. then the russians took over breitbart to move in on mic's drudge. those radio stations are still the main trump tool/advantage/weapon - that's what the kremlin soc media trolling has been piggybacking
if you really want to get your candidate's back don't let your local rw radio station lie about her/him all day to thousands of people in your community! and for pete's sake don't let your state university broadcast sports on it.

(14,782 posts)and it's a cancer on us all. Comes primarily from no longer looking our fellow humans square in the eye while communicating....
I've noticed for the last several years, the dialog and demeanor of people I deal with (family, friends, businesses) has slowly become more caustic and smart-ass, like a bunch of teenagers competing for dates. I hope people finally tire of social media and we reverse that trend. I've let several people know that behavior simply is not acceptable.
There's no purpose in being abrasive when commenting on our politicians and their statements - it only annoys and serves no end. We should simply state our objections in a rational way and leave it at that. Reading a string of posts on DU should not leave me a nervous wreck, but some have recently.
If we try to be more like old-fashioned ladies and gentlemen, the right-wing trolls will get bored and leave....

(10,412 posts)Complete change in the GOP. If he criticizes their behavior and negligence today, they'll only become more disrespectful of the Constitution.
And that isn't going to work out strategically. Does he think wooing them will change their path towards all out fascism?
Is he playing several moves ahead, or is he hoping for a return to an old normal that disappeared in '92?
