Joe Biden is a seriously flawed candidate.

He is tone deaf and out of step on numerous issues. He routinely sabotages his own campaign with gaffes. His handlers are so worried about the disconnect between where the party is on many issues and where Biden is that they are basically keeping him offline as much as possible.

We have now had several missteps: his Anita Hill non-apology, his joking about sexual abuse, the Hyde amendment nonsense, and now his Eastland gaffe. We haven’t even gotten to the first debate yet.

We need a better candidate and we have many excellent options.

If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for:

'92 Clinton was not the "comeback kid" for no reason...
'08 Obama? At this point in the race he was given up for dead to Hillary.
'16 Hillary even though she secured the nomination went through a bruising primary with Bernie...

Joe Biden is already finding out that being an early front-runner is not a prefered position.

While I still want to see Mayor Pete become President Pete, I think our top tier beneath Biden is more likely to produce the nominee from Buttigieg, Warren, Harris and maybe a late rising dark horse than either Sanders or Biden.

is “and no dating before you’re 30”, directed generally at young women.

And it is all in jest.

Not only is underage sex, also known as “statutory rape” a hoot, but women have no agency and cannot decide for themselves how to conduct their social interactions until they are 30. But just for yucks.

This stuff was all acceptable 30 years ago.

Now it is just tone deaf.

38. He did not joke about sexual abuse. You are simply repeating a highly suspect response Linda
Thu Jun 20, 2019, 01:28 PM
Jun 2019

Flores had to a rather self-effacing and good humored remark Biden made before he hugged a little boy, after he had acknowledged that he needed to listen to women’s complaints about him.
He said “I better ask for permission” with an expression completely devoid of mockery, malice, or sarcasm, and then hugged the boy.
Linda Flores, appropriating language from sex abuse and rape cases, legal language used to determine if a crime has been committed, said he mocked women, mocked consent. She knew what she was saying, using loaded language to imply that Biden, who has spoken out about consent to men on many campuses, and who has supported women against violence through his legislation, was joking about the issue of consent in rape cases.

Here is what he has said about consent:

Nothing justifies a man laying a hand on a woman without her consent. Look, you need consent. If the woman is totally drunk and inebriated, she can’t give consent. It’s rape. It’s rape if you cannot give consent. It is assault.

He also wrote beautifully to a young woman sexually assaulted on campus by a star swimmer who got a slap on the wrist. She had written an open letter, an account of the assault and how the judge favored the young man because he had an athletic career ahead of him, while utterly discounting her.

The situation with the little boy, which was what Flores referenced, was non-sexual and bore no relation to the context Linda Flores evoked in her response when she attempted to conflate consent to have sex between men and women with women wanting Joe to ask permission if he could hold their hand, guide them by the shoulder, hug...

It is terrible that you use smears and myths to criticize Joe Biden’, rather than facts.

The flip-flops on the Hyde Amendment and the death penalty are going to call into question the moderateness that so many think makes him electable in places where Hillary Clinton wasn't. Never mind that Trump thought that abortion was OK a couple of decades ago, he'll surely charge Joe Biden with having no core beliefs in a debate. He manages to play hypocrisy well with his base.

Unlike many of his 2020 Democratic opponents, Biden has not sworn off campaign money from wealthy donors......

During the fundraiser, Biden also reassured the pack of elite donors that his tax plans would not be too much of a burden on them. He stated that "nobody has to be punished" by his economic proposals and that "no one's standard of living would change."

According to a report by CNBC, Biden even asked a billionaire Republican donor who supports President Donald Trump, John Catsimatidis, for fundraising help. Catsimatidis said he "just smiled" when Biden made his campaign pitch.

His comments came just hours after he attended the Poor People's Campaign, an organization that works to challenge racism and economic injustice. During the event, Biden said that poverty was the "one thing" that can bring the U.S. down.

Biden added that if elected he would eliminate a large portion of Republican tax cuts and reduce the military's budget in order to fund programs for poorer Americans. "We have all the money we need to do it," he said.

Which is the Real Joe? Does being Third Way mean you say whatever you have to say to whatever crowd you're in front of?

Really want to re-set the Democratic Party.

By gravitating to the cadidate named as most electable. Our entire field has the potential to beat Trump. We have such an abundance of good, progressive candidates. Whoever takes over post Trump has their work cut out for them. They are going to have to hit the ground running every day for a while.

He can win against Trump. Yes - I would prefer somebody else like Harris or Warren -
but I'm not the typical middle of the road democrat. I will vote for the person that wins the
nomination. That said, he will not have my primary vote. I respect those fellow democrats who
think differently about this.

I am opposed to Joe Biden for the same reason I am opposed to ANYONE over 70 being President. I want young blood in the office - people that are not beholden to antiquated ideals.

That said --- I will HAPPILY vote for Mr. Biden if he becomes the Candidate and feel confident he will do a fine job.

However, they are going to DESTROY his son, Hunter for his recent relationship entanglements.

I know Joe is leading polls....but that is because most of America knows his name/face etc. I live in Kentucky (yeah..yeah....) and doubt many Democrats here would be able to name more than one or two other candidates.

This can't be overlooked. He has a long history of being a gaffe making machine. When your compass is not calibrated correctly you stray off-course and into enemy territory. We don't want that in a leader - indeed we already have that in Trump. (Trump has a whole lot more wrong with him than that). I'm still sorting things out but Biden has dropped off of my radar - though if he is the nominee I will vote for him and encourage others to also vote for him as well.

we arent indicative of general voting populations, because we are better educated than most.

which is to say that the debate here is among people who know what they are talking about, for the most part, and many real concerns have been expressed.
the info is out there if you want to look. i put a higher value on educated critics than generic voters who may or may not be paying any attention.
it's early. this stuff will become more widely known, more incidents will almost certainly follow.

i'm not talking about people who are predicting the future, guessing who will beat trump. i am talking about people who are recounting the past, and looking at the present, and have real issues.

too many other good choices this time.

I hate the effect polls have on people. Biden is being sold to us as the front runner but why do we even fucking care at this point. Let's give all the candidates a chance to make their case before we all circle our wagons around our favorite.

But now picking our leaders in government has become no better than a sport and if you're candidate wins, you get to cheer with glee and feel like a winner too. But if he or she doesn't, then you lost, too bad, sucks to be you.

Except this is about democracy and representative government, not a winner-takes-all game of ring toss. We cripple ourselves with these stupid showmanship games. It does not serve our interests to get fanatic about politicians.
