Democratic Primaries
Related: About this forumHow Warren's supporters plan to poach Biden backers
Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) has been called a less radical alternative to Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.). Her backers think that's the wrong approach.
Instead of aiming to snag Sanders supporters as the 2020 Democratic primaries ramp up, Warren's allies at the Progressive Change Campaign Committee have said their new "Switch to Warren" initiative will actually zero in on Joe Biden's base. That's because Biden's backers "are ready to bolt," PCCC co-founder Adam Green tells BuzzFeed News, and the group is ready to snatch them for Warren.
Biden secured the top spot in Democratic primary polls even months before he started his campaign, while Warren had a relatively dismal showing after launching late last year. Yet in recent weeks, she's been securing third and even second place showings, breaking Sanders' seemingly solid No. 2 rank.
Earlier speculation suggested Warren was stealing voters from Sanders' ranks. But the PCCC, which has more than 1 million members and has been tied to Warren since her 2012 Senate run, sees it differently. "The two big honeypots for Warren are actually Biden supporters and undecided voters" because they want a candidate who can "inspire voters in the general election," Green told BuzzFeed News. The PCCC has already rounded up some of these Democrats who've abandoned their original candidates for Warren, and is collecting their testimonials for the "Switch to Warren" push that began Monday.

Beating Trump is all the inspiration I and other Biden supporters need. And though I like Warren, I'm not convinced she can take down Trump. Without a decisive win in 2020, all bets for the future of the country are off.
This time out, I'm touting the Republican message:
WINNING IS EVERYTHING
In addition, Biden voters want a candidate who will take Trump to the cleaners and return the country to a state of normal. They support Joe Biden because of his long years of experience, his foreign policy chops and his proven ability as President Obama's VP.
We cannot move forward until we shore up what has been broken, weakened. Our basic institutions have taken a battering. The rule of law has been side-stepped. Policies and programs to ensure a better, healthier future have been ravaged.
Fix what's broken first.
If Warren's people are looking to seduce Biden supporters to their camp then it tells me they are very aware that simply appealing to the left flank is not enough. Because the vast majority of the country is left-of-center which is where Joe Biden lives and from where his strength emanates. This is the lane Joe Biden deliberately chose. It appears that other candidates are realizing that wasn't such a dumb choice. Because Math!

Combine the vote for Sanders and Warren and Biden is still ahead in most areas, including the battleground states and the early-primary states. The math doesn't currently support your assertion.
"he is thought of as the credit card senator, the 3 strike senator, the Clarence Thomas senator"
In the real world, this isn't the case. In the real world, he's seen as Obama's VP. Voters tend to be influenced by the recency effect.
"of course that is by design "
The nominee is chosen by Democrats. The process is not "designed" to do anything other than determine who Democrats (and some independents and Republicans, in open primary states) prefer for their nominee. Same as it is most cycles.

But, they don't know. All they have is the polls, and the polls aren't asking that question, at least so far. You can sort of see it by watching who is losing ground and who is gaining it, but even that doesn't tell you why people are moving.

(48,902 posts)But considering how far both Warren and Sanders are behind Biden in most polls, I guess their supporters need to cling to their fantasies.

(3,482 posts)I like Elizabeth Warren. Im probably most closely aligned with her policies but I just dont think she can win the general. All I care about is getting rid of this disgrace.

(12,344 posts)Ignore this sentence and you miss the wjole reason for the strategy. They are going after Biden voters not because they are ready to bolt, but because that's where the votes are. Sort of like why bank robbers rob banks.
The strategy is also based on what's been happening lately with Warren. The more people listen to her, the more they like her. If so, then getting her message to Biden voters can snag her voters who may not have considered her before.
