Washington Post- Opinions -Is Biden getting the Hillary Clinton treatment?

I will never forgive the NYT for the job that they did on Clinton in 2016. I have a Washington Post subscription and I will never subscribe to the NYT. Here history is repeating itself

A leading national newspaper treats the eventual Democratic presidential nominee far more harshly than it does other Democrats and dwells ad nauseam on issues far less serious than those adversely affecting the Republican. The Democratic nominee is subjected to one negative story after another, often without advancing prior stories. That’s how many Democrats felt the New York Times covered Hillary Clinton.

Numerous Democratic commentators have publicly criticized, both during the 2016 campaign and subsequently, what they perceived as the Times’s unbalanced coverage that allowed then-candidate Donald Trump to escape scrutiny for many issues that were far more serious than Clinton’s. Even the Times admitted in December 2016, “Every major publication, including The Times, published multiple stories citing the D.N.C. and Podesta emails posted by WikiLeaks, becoming a de facto instrument of Russian intelligence.”....

Unfortunately for former vice president Joe Biden, history may be repeating itself.

A case in point is a New York Times front-page article with the catchy Web headline “'Lock the S.O.B.s Up’: Joe Biden and the Era of Mass Incarceration.” It has been widely reported that Biden’s authorship of anti-crime legislation in the 1990s poses a problem with some Democratic voters, especially African Americans, in an era of criminal-justice reform. He has also taken a hit for speaking about the atmosphere of “civility” that allowed him to work with rabid segregationists. That’s an entirely legitimate topic of discussion.

The NYT did its best to elect trump and succeeded. I fear that we will see history repeat itself
If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for:
Joe Biden

1. Jennifer needs to also look at Matt Vizer of the Washington Post.

He writes nothing but hit pieces on Biden.

the Black Caucus supported it because crime was a particular blight on minority neighborhoods.

7. For the most part it wasn't.

She destroyed Sanders among Black voters. That is why she beat him and won the nomination.

4. Here is part of the study cited in the Washington Post article in the OP

This is so sad https://www.cjr.org/analysis/fake-news-media-election-trump.php

Of the 1,433 articles that mentioned Trump or Clinton, 291 were devoted to scandals or other personal matters while only 70 mentioned policy, and of these only 60 mentioned any details of either candidate’s positions. In other words, comparing the two datasets, the number of Personal/Scandal stories for every Policy story ranged from 3.4 (for front-page stories) to 4.2. Further restricting to Policy stories that contained some detail about at least one candidate’s positions, these ratios rise to 5.5 and 4.85, respectively. …

In just six days, The New York Times ran as many cover stories about Hillary Clinton’s emails as they did about all policy issues combined in the 69 days leading up to the election. …

In retrospect, it seems clear that the press in general made the mistake of assuming a Clinton victory was inevitable, and were setting themselves as credible critics of the next administration. … Yet, rather than acknowledging the possible impact their collective failure of imagination could have had on the election outcome, the mainstream news community has instead focused its critical attention everywhere but on themselves: fake news, Russian hackers, technology companies, algorithmic ranking, the alt-right, even on the American public......

In this context, 10 is an interesting figure because it is also the number of front-page stories the Times ran on the Hillary Clinton email scandal in just six days, from October 29 (the day after FBI Director James Comey announced his decision to reopen his investigation of possible wrongdoing by Clinton) through November 3, just five days before the election. When compared with the Times’s overall coverage of the campaign, the intensity of focus on this one issue is extraordinary. To reiterate, in just six days, The New York Times ran as many cover stories about Hillary Clinton’s emails as they did about all policy issues combined in the 69 days leading up to the election (and that does not include the three additional articles on October 18, and November 6 and 7, or the two articles on the emails taken from John Podesta). This intense focus on the email scandal cannot be written off as inconsequential: The Comey incident and its subsequent impact on Clinton’s approval rating among undecided voters could very well have tipped the election.

The emphasis on the e-mail story at the end of the campaign helped the NYT to elect trump

I hope that the same does not happen this cycle.

5. Gothmog, please check what the WaPo has been printing about Biden:

https://www.washingtonpost.com/people/matt-viser/?utm_term=.0ef923a60c7f

That's from just one author, Matt Vizer. So the Post needs to start practicing what they preach. This Vizer dude is an attack dog.

8. No candidate in history has been treated as badly as HRC, either in 2008 or in 2016.

Biden's treatment won't even begin to compare to what she got.

All the attacks are focused on Biden. Meanwhile, serial rapist trump gets a pass.

16. Trump being POTUS has been great for the media

He creates one sensational and despicable news story after another.

Both NYT and WaPo have increased their subscriptions.

These attempts to make a Democrat lose are very transparent and we should protest.
