Democratic Primaries
Related: About this forumSo we can all agree Cory Booker won the debate last night.

(14,719 posts)Booker is still drawing 1% in the DU poll, so that really doesn't translate to a "win."
I think the race fairly quickly boils down to a Biden/Warren contest, with Bernie having god knows what impact by continuing to stay in the race.

(393 posts)It could be where I sit on the spectrum, but I thought Warren did well. I expected her to do well, so an "workman like" performance would be a failure in my eyes. I thought her the clear "winner."
Could be my expectations were so low of DeBasio, but I thought he broke from the rest of the pack and had a moment in the sun.
Booker also did fine. But again, I expected him to do a good job. I would rank him as someone who helped himself rather than hurt.
Finally Castro did okay and brought attention to himself.
The rest were just okay. With the exception of poor O'Rourke, the others did no harm, but did little to break out. I wanted O'Rourke to get his campaign back on track. I do not agree with what he is saying all the time, but I can't help but like him. He looked nervous and thus it affected his performance.

(1,810 posts)His depth isn't fake. He is always on a journey and learning. He shares what he has learned and tries to do right. I view him as a really good role model. I'm not making any slight at his Presidential aspirations when I say that. He is the real deal.

He did find a way to insert himself into more conversations than the others did... and theres little question that HE thinks he won... but I doubt that his numbers will improve as much as A couple others

(67,782 posts)My take was that Booker, Castro, Delaney, and yes even DiBlasio looked the best.
Klobuchar, O'Rourke, Inslee, and Warren were okay
Gabbard and Ryan weren't good at all.
And tossing in the Spanish was strained and kind of silly.

(54 posts)I found he had a hard time answering yes or no questions. Gabbard wasn't really given a fair chance and I thought she had the least amount of time to talk.
My man, Booker, did a really good job IMO. Even if he didn't win, I think he still left people with a positive and memorable impression.

(67,782 posts)....at all. But he was good last night. Maybe it's the limited time they have. One of the knocks I had on him is that he overtalks what he's trying to say, almost like many of the media people who ask their question, reword it, reask it, then finally shut up and let the interviewee answer.

(8,709 posts)what he had to say and how he said it. And as mayor pointing out immigrants aren't causing Americans to fall behind, his universal preK program, $15 minimum wage approval, his World War II vet dad's suicide after the war, and especially his discussion with his black son dealing with the police.
I'm not up on New York City politics so I can only go by some of his record.

(10,410 posts)Warren won the debate, with Castro coming in 2nd and Booker coming in 3rd. The only thing really surprising to me right now is that it's taken this long for Castro to be noticed....and that Booker has been so far down in the polling.

(18,767 posts)...some may not actually believe they will win the presidency nor do they want to...but there are other cabinet positions they may have their eye on. This is a good way to get their special talents and interests known to the potential winner. Makes sense to me...

(18,402 posts)Castro perhaps even more so. I like them both and want to see both progress to places on the debate stage in September (which means we need to donate to their campaigns, if even only a little: they need 130,000 individual donors each to qualify, as well as 2% in the polls.)
Both of these men (yeah, they're men, but I'm not biased on that count) exceeded expectations and made names for themselves that could boost their potential.
In the end, by September I'd like to see only about 8 or at most 9 people on stage: and I want at least 2 (or even three of them, say Warren, Harris, Klobochar) to be women.
