in her limited way (shameful Yang and her are there and not Bullock)

the rest need to go go go

Bernie is too angry and unhinged, Gillibrand is obnoxious, same for Swalwell

last point

Biden is now talking about Medicare for the public option again

he started there at launch

2 weeks ago flipped to Medicaid-based public option (went hard into how it would be Medicaid, NOT Medicare)

now he is sorta back on Medicare?

which is it?

it is a massive difference as Medicaid pays far less in reimbursement than Medicare or private insurance and may doctors refuse it

What she didn't do was pin Joe down on the fact that a massive amount of busing was done to maintain segregated schools. If Joe was so attuned to local issues, he would have understood that the net amount of busing could have been lower in many places with busing to integrate schools. I think it would have been more straight forward of Joe to say what I think was the issue then, as a White person with young kids, he got caught up in the emotional issue of the uncertainties of mixing kids from different social norms in the same schools, Harris failed to corner his by pointing out the large amount of pre integrated schools busing.

where Harris is coming from. As a young boy, I arrived at school just before schools were integrated in my county. I could not understand why kids that I played with during the summers were bussed a long way to another school - Biden glossed over that reality of segregation, there was MASSIVE busing to maintain segregation, busing kids pass closer schools. Harris was on target but missed hitting Joe with what I pointed out above.

There was no way most municipalities would have integrated without the department of education and the Courts stepping in. The Brown decision was in May 1954, my county integrated schools in 1970 after losing in Court and facing a New Democratic governor of the state who said that schools would integrate and that there was no other option - faced with that, my county became creative in a way that is a model, achieving school integration that has become societal integration over time.

was done to keep schools segregated. White kids were bused in large numbers past Black schools to their White schools. People that use the argument that Joe tried to use gloss over that fact, busing for integration actually resulted in kids having shorter trips to school if it was done right. In my county it was done right, the county built a new high school and converted the Black high schools into middle schools. The net result was kids had shorter trips to school, some could even walk to school. Today parents get waivers that have their kids go to school near where the parent works if that waiver does not interfere with the goal of keeping schools integrated. So if a White parent works near a school that is near a mostly Black community, their kid can go to school there and go to the parent's jobsite after school.

The reason the Dept of Education had to order bussing is that the state and local school districts failed to integrate their schools. It wasn't until the Feds stepped in that schools were integrated. Alabama, Arkansas, Mississippi (and other states too) weren't going to do it unless they were forced.

In this tweet she attributes integration with enabling her to become a lawyer. That sure doesn't sound like she was angry about being bussed.

She said she thought he was wrong for not supporting bussing. His answer was to say that he wasn't against bussing. He was against the federal integration and thought that the local districts should do it. However, back then if you left it to the locals it wouldn't have gotten done. It took federal intervention to integrate the schools in Little Rock and many other communities.

when the public schools in my area were desegregated because I never went to public school until the 6th grade and by the 6th grade the schools were already integrated.

My private Catholic school had quite a few Mexican-American kids but just a few black kids. I only remember 2 from back then.

But I knew there was an abandoned school on the other side of town that used to be the black school. I'm assuming that they bussed black kids to that school from wherever they lived before integration although I think most of them probably lived near the school because at that time the town was pretty segregated.

That happened because Black and White housing tracks often overlapped or abutted eachother. Kids had longer rides in the segregated system and more busses were needed. Today a lot of kids simply walk to school after sidewalks were improved.

It was not like states and local school districts were going to move kids to fully integrate schools. Also, Biden failed to mention that before school integration, kids were bused well pass the closest school to their race school, many miles in most cases. The press and academics have not tried to study pre integration busing routes, there is a lot to learn.

In my county, years ago housing was very segregated, today it is more integrated. Kids were bused as much before integration as they were after.

Integration is the issue. If Kamala hadn't been bussed, she would have gone to segregated schools. The issue is very complicated. There were places where kids were going to neighborhood schools but the neighborhoods were segregated so the schools were also segregated so both some black and some white kids had to be bussed to accomplish integration. In other areas, black kids could have walked to neighborhood schools that only white kids went to but instead were bussed to black schools across town. In some areas it was easier to integrate because what needed to be done is to have school attendance zones redrawn to be more integrated

217. It was NOT the issue. Where I went to school, kids in integrated schools got bussed LESS

because of housing patterns. Some kids that had miles of bus rides to a segregated school could walk to the integrated school. That was my reality. Your's may be different. So for my, busing in an integrated school system was more efficient and less costly.

is not a good look for him. Harris expertly lured him into a trap a couple of times during that central confrontation, even when she gave him a chance to take an out, he stepped into the trap. Contrast that to how Buttigieg handled her very well placed query about the racial makeup of the South Bend police department.

She is fading in the polls with at least Joe, Bernie and Warren ahead of her, and possibly Mayor Pete. Unless she makes a move now she is probably out shortly. Everyone knows that Biden's record on civil rights is superb. Her attack was more about getting attention than anything else. She also just eliminated herself as Biden's veep if he gets the nomination.
