Republicans start donating to Marianne Williamson to keep her in future Democratic debates

(USA Today) WASHINGTON -- Author Marianne Williamson's quirky, love-conquers-all approach on the Democratic debate stage Thursday drew applause, ridicule and confusion. On Friday, she was attracting donations. From Republicans.

GOP strategist Jeff Roe, who ran Texas Sen. Ted Cruz' 2016 presidential campaign, tweeted out to his 16,000 followers asking fellow Republicans "to donate $1 to keep this vibrant democrat on the debate stage. One debate performance is not enough."

At least several people appear to have taken up the challenge based on responses to Roe, accompanied by copies of receipts of their campaign donations. Because qualifying for future debates requires a certain level of fundraising and support, Republicans say they want to keep her offbeat presence on stage...

Marianne Williamson, Longtime Wacko, Is Now a Dangerous Wacko

For decades, Williamson said that medicines don’t cure disease but positive thinking does. Now she’s taking her quackery to a new and dangerous level: the anti-vaxxer conspiracy.

.......The cut for the debates is determined by polling and fundraising thresholds. The candidates must meet one of two criteria to participate: registering at least 1% support in three polls, or getting donations from 65,000 people (and those have to somewhat spread out, with a minimum of 200 donors in at least 20 states).

I don't see a problem with her participating in any debate she qualifies for.

That said, I don't think she will make the cutoff for the third debate. And if republicans want to spend their money on her, it's better than them giving it to the racist in the White House.

Seriously, trying to make Williamson into anything but a minor candidate with a good heart is silly.

As the pundits who mock her say "she is an Oprah fave".

Oprah Winfrey does not support Republican operatives. lol

But, heh, after 2 years of Trump, people have a right to examine every candidate's motives very closely.

and maybe those like her seminars/town halls are the ones keeping her on the stage. She's been doing what she does since the 80's and has a following. And as you say, if the Recons are spending money on her, they aren't spending it on the traitor.

There are others on that debate stage I'd be more concerned about

But even some of Williamson’s friends appear wary of supporting the presidential bid of a woman who has never held political office or worked in government, and whose career has focused more on inner peace than foreign policy.

That includes Winfrey, a close friend who made Williamson a star when she invited her on her show in 1992. Winfrey was publicly enthusiastic over former Rep. Beto O’Rourke’s presidential run, and recently said she was reading the book by South Bend, Ind., Mayor Pete Buttigieg, but she has been silent on Williamson’s bid.

Williamson has said she sent Winfrey an email about her presidential run, but she declined to comment further.

Dennis Kucinich, the former Ohio congressman who has considered Williamson a close friend for nearly 40 years, said he is also staying out of the race for now. Though he is fond of Williamson and her message, he’s staying neutral because he also likes another candidate in the race, though he declined to say which one.

Yes I'm doing that as a bit of a joke. I get who she is and it's mostly positive except for the anti-vax crap.

First - she's good at marketing and even if it brings eyes to the screen because they are ridiculing her I'll take it. Remember Trump was made by the media - constant coverage. If people tune in just for her they get to see the rest of our excellent field.

Second - there's nothing wrong with positivity. If she does nothing else she brings light on to our side...oh crap I think I've taken this too far.

😁
