Related: About this forumSens. Kamala Harris and Amy Klobuchar, each former prosecutors, make their cases to Iowa voters
In West Des Moines on Wednesday afternoon, U.S. Sen. Kamala Harris told voters she's "prepared to prosecute the case" against President Donald Trump.
Harris, who worked as a prosecutor, district attorney and as California's attorney general before being elected to the Senate, touted her law enforcement background as an asset in her campaign for president.
Klobuchar's speech also included several direct references to Trump, as she draws contrasts with the president on the campaign trail in an effort to win over moderate Republicans and independents. Her stump speech rarely references her time as a corporate lawyer or as Hennepin County attorney, an office she held from 1999-2007.
On Wednesday, she called for Democrats to unite against Trump's "divisive" politics.
"We have a guy right now in the White House that literally tries to divide us. Every single moment, with every single tweet, he tries to divide us." she said. "... You know we are better than that as a nation. As we look at the Fourth of July week, think about the freedom of our democracy."
