He is brilliant. But I think his bid is over. He needs to do the hard work at home, and perhaps look for another way to serve politically.

I will continue to support him, but I am discouraged.

Warren is at 4% among AA voters in that poll. Should she too fold her campaign? Of course not!

Many of the candidates have a great deal of work to do to convince minority voters that they can represent their best interests, and they have the better part of a year to do it.

They at least score a number. Sanders is at 16% for instance and he's had a problem attracting POC support.

Buttigieg has a much bigger problem.

Actual poll posted below (from the link in the OP). Worth noting... this does not mean that the AA voters don't like Pete, it means they like some other candidate better. And honestly, no matter how hard Pete works, I think it will hard for him to become the first choice for many AA voters, over Biden and Harris, unless Biden and/or Harris screw up. And in a way, it's impressive that Sanders is doing as well as he is, in a pretty strong third place, considering his weak history with AA voters.

Mayor Pete is quite eloquent and has a lot of good ideas, but zero percent among black voters in a poll is not going to cut it, especially in states like South Carolina, where black voters make up a substantial percentage of the Democratic vote.

an "inconvenient truth" - many AA voted against a California ballot measure that allowed gay marriage, before the Supreme Court rule, of course.

I suspect many preachers still look at gay as sin.

Black voters are more sophisticated than you give them credit for when it comes to the gay community.

And African American voters are a critical part of the democratic coalition.

Mayor Pete has a lot of work to do over the next few years to earn support.

Today I am angry about the culture of corruption in the police across the country. Police have become a poison in the body politic. Mayor Pete didn’t create the problem, but he’s paying for it nonetheless.

The police turning against the people they are supposed to protect will take years to fix. Mayors are an important part of finding a solution, but I believe it will take cooperation between government and groups like BLM to put an end to get rid of the sickness.

For example, a news conference to announce a top down reorganization of the police department to sideline the bad players and keep them off the streets. This is what the African-American community wants. Strong and forceful executive action to address their issues regarding police brutality. His numbers will go up!

The real reason Pete is not popular with that population is because they have not seen something dramatic and concrete on television. They have no idea how hard he is working to help them behind the scenes. But that is a misperception that Pete can fix using his communication skills and his intelligence. He is by far the best communicator among all the candidates.
