...IT is--Intellectual Sophistication. The Augustana Learning Outcomes define three aspects of Intellectual Sophistication:
Disciplinary Knowledge Understand: Demonstrate an extended knowledge of at least one specific discipline and its interdisciplinary connections to the liberal arts, reflected in the ability to address issues or challenges and contribute to the field.
Critical Thinking and Information Literacy Analyze: Critique and construct arguments. This requires the ability to raise vital questions, formulate well-defined problems, recognize underlying assumptions, gather evidence in an efficient, ethical and legal manner, suspend judgment while gathering evidence, evaluate the integrity and utility of potential evidence, critique and incorporate other plausible perspectives, and determine a reasonable conclusion based upon the available evidence.
Quantitative Literacy Interpret: Interpret, represent and summarize information in a variety of modes (symbolic, graphical, numerical and verbal) presented in mathematical and statistical models; use mathematical and statistical methods to solve problems, and recognize the limitations of these methods. What is "it"? It's everything it takes to be President!

(11,495 posts)trump has done his best to destroy the rule of law, and it should never happen again. The republicans have sit back and allowed this travesty to happen, and they should be held accountable for their actions by the voters, along with trump.

(7,447 posts)into an enlisted military NCO.
My initial assumption was let's say X. After the investigation was complete, I moved to Y.
But then after talking to a senior NCO, and taking his advice and extra evidence into consideration, I moved back to X.
I had a set of assumptions, which moved a bit after new evidence came in, and then moved again when more evidence came in.

(58,785 posts)Okaay. Can you understand intellectually sophistication if you don't understand discussions of it, maybe sorta like knowing pornography when you see it?
For extreme comparison, I've seen a fair mount of both Obama and a very ideologically narrow and zealous candidate and feel sure Obama has it in abundance and the ideologue does not. That seeing, understanding, and connecting many dots, not just a few, thing. The difference between slotting information into a preconceived world view, and rejecting all that doesn't, and being able to develop it into knowledge, understanding and wisdom?
