Economist/YouGov: Biden leads field by 8 points, followed by Warren and Sanders

The Hill - BY REBECCA KLAR - 07/17/19 04:17 PM EDT

Former Vice President Joe Biden holds an 8-point lead over Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) in the latest Economist/YouGov poll released Wednesday.

It’s a 3-point increase in Biden’s lead over Warren compared to the Economist/YouGov poll released last week, with Biden’s support increasing 1 point, from 22 percent to 23 percent, and Warren’s dropping 2 points, from 17 percent to 15 percent.

Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) closely trails Warren with 13 percent, a 2-point uptick from Sanders’ support in last week’s poll.

Sanders pulled ahead of Sen. Kamala Harris (D-Calif.), after trailing her by 4 points in last week’s survey.

Harris’ support dropped from 14 percent to 10 percent, knocking her into the fourth place spot based on Wednesday’s poll results.

But nationally she's floating back down to 4th place. So, I think the debate bubble is gently bursting is all. This is about where I expects things to stay until closer to the elections, then I think there will movement toward Biden as reality comes calling, so to speak

Harris has a great backstory, gives good speeches, knows how to win elections. Okay then what? She's been in the Senate for a couple years and that's it. And her plans are all over the place. So it won't be Harris. And that's more or less the story with the other senators. They are all great, would make great presidents, but they'd make better veeps this time . . .

Things could change based on the next debate but the novelty seems to be wearing off. Warren is really shining. So it's looking like it will probably be a contest between those two. And maybe a squeaker.

I'm undecided, love all these candidates and will support any nominee. I understand playing it safe with Biden at moment. The other serious contenders are relatively well known. I wonder if anyone will come out of left field ( aka Obama, Bill Clinton). I just think there is potential for a galvanizing candidate that hasn't been defined by years in the DC loop. Keep your eye on Bullock.

He's got his red-state angle and a nice personality but is that enough to muscle in at this point? What happens in South Carolina for example?

Good point. I'm not betting on him but would have mad appeal in heartland. I'm glad he's in debate. He, in a sense, reminds me of Clinton back in the day.

position, and that hasn't changed all that much. I don't fall to pieces from one poll to another. One other thing is clear for the rest of the field...what goes up, CAN come down.
