Tensions Between Bernie Sanders and MSNBC Boil Over

(snip)

Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) and MSNBC have always had a complicated relationship. Sanders, a top-tier contender for the Democratic nomination, has long questioned the news media’s biases, while pundits have taken fresh shots at the Vermont senator this cycle. But officials in Sanders’ campaign contend that leading up to the 2020 election, the network is one of several cable news outlets directly contributing to a media climate where false claims go unchecked and requests for progressive voices on-air are frequently turned down.

(snip)

Rocah’s comments—which multiple campaign officials contended went too far—were part of a larger issue they see brewing, where the fact-checking process appears to be largely removed from the day-to-day political discourse among some commentators and hosts.

(snip)

“It doesn’t even have to be ‘rah rah rah, Bernie Sanders!’” Turner said, pointing to Zerlina Maxwell, an MSNBC political analyst and former official on Hillary Clinton’s 2016 campaign who shared the segment with Rocah. “Just someone who would push back.”

(snip)

But Sanders’ campaign argues the incident was not isolated. “There’s no effort to push for fact-based analysis,” one campaign official told The Daily Beast. “Cable news allows that sort of spin to exist in the world in a way that doesn’t get checked.”

From his campaigns own union to the media. He has even created his own state ran “media” outlet. I know someone else who campaigns just like this. And to be clear, his senate staff has done work for his “media” outlets.

Comparing democrats to Trump? Check.

Fighting union organizer in an attempt to not pay fair wages? Check.

Attacking the media? Check.

Showing up at an event last minute when another candidate is the headline speaker? Check.

Comparing a democrats proposal that would expand the number of people who have healthcare to a terrorist attack? Check.

The list goes on and I didn’t embellish one thing.

that's the water the American People swim in.

It's also absolutely undeniable that the corporate media conglomerates (all six of them which own approximately 90% of American televised, radio and print information) have built in, inherent financial conflicts of interest with policies that promote the public interest over the private no matter the merit of the argument.

This is the elephant (coincidentally the Republican symbol) in the room.

Wed Jul 24, 2019, 08:23 AM
Jul 2019

Fox is not news and should not be allowed to call itself news. The same applies to any news outlet. They shouldn't be allowed to use fake stories and lies yet label themselves news. There should be some standards to be considered a real "news" program.

I'm not advocating censorship. Go ahead a publish all the lies and Russian propaganda you want. Just don't call yourself a news outlet.

I know that in the past newspapers were just as bad but that does not make it OK. There is so much info out there today that a sorting process of some kind is required. May be a sliding scale like 100 means you only publish facts and 1 means you are O'Keefe. It it is Not about liberal or not. It is about facts and lies.

43. Bernie is fighting with or is unhappy with most of the media
Wed Jul 24, 2019, 01:50 PM
Jul 2019

Is there any mainstream media source that sanders is not fighting with?

"This isn't intended to be a sweeping generalization of all journalists,” he told POLITICO, “but there are a healthy number who just find Bernie annoying, discount his seriousness, and wish his supporters and movement would just go away.”...

Journalists who cover Sanders, meanwhile, dispute many of those criticisms. They say if he gets less attention than other candidates, it’s because he’s often unwilling to address breaking news and shies away from impromptu Q&A sessions, or gaggles, after events.....

Sanders “wants to talk about what he wants to talk about, when he wants to talk about it,” said one reporter who covered the candidate in 2016 and 2019. “And he doesn't see the value of talking to reporters about what they want to talk about because, in part, he thinks they’re going to talk about what he considers stupid stuff.”

He doesn’t hesitate to make that disdain known, either. The New York Times disclosed in May that Sanders declined an interview for a piece on his time as mayor of Burlington, Vt., including a 1985 meeting with Daniel Ortega, the president of Nicaragua and a foe of the Reagan administration. After the story was published, Sanders requested a phone interview, eventually telling the reporter, “You don’t understand a word that I’m saying.”....

He doesn’t have much patience for reporters who want him to talk about anything other than that agenda. “Good Morning America” host George Stephanopoulos kicked off an interview Thursday by telling Sanders that voters want to know more about him as a person.

He is on one or more of the Sunday talk shows every frigging week.

He gets enough publicity. The problem is not the media. The problem is that people are getting sick of his divisive rhetoric.

Except Sanders. Anyone notice that? I mean if anyone had a reason to go after media it was HRC and not once.

One talking head says "He just makes my skin crawl. I don't know why" and everyone else just goes along with it. Wtf kind of journalism is that? You can just say you don't like someone and have no reason?!? And that passes for thoughtful analysis on msnbc?

I didn't hear any complaints when he skated through the 2016 primaries with barely any scrutiny.
