Democratic Debate 2019: Top takeaways from Beto O'Rourke's presidential debate performance

O'Rourke's opening pitch

In his opening statement, O'Rourke said "this moment will define us forever."

"I believe that in this test, America will be redeemed," he continued. "In the face of cruelty, and fear from a lawless president we will choose to be the nation that stands up for the human rights of everyone, for the rule of law of everyone and a democracy that serves everyone. Whatever our differences we know that before we are anything else we are Americans first."

O'Rourke on health care

O'Rourke said he wouldn't support middle-class Americans paying more taxes to ensure everyone is guaranteed "world class healthcare."

"I think we're being offered a false choice," O'Rourke said. "Some who want to improve the affordable care act at the margins and other who want a Medicare for All program that will force people off of private insurance."

He advocated a plan called "Medicare for America."

The American people WANT CHOICE. If Democrats want Trump to be re-elected they will nominate someone pushing to take away private health care. Democrats NEED Independent voters to beat Trump. If they threaten to take away private health care Independents WILL vote for Trump.

is just a strategy to scare people from the ideas that both Sanders and Warren are putting forward.

If you look at the Canadian system, you will find that yes, people do pay more on taxes, but the savings they get from not having to pay premiums, insurance, etc far outweighs the taxes they pay, people retain more of their money, which is not what happens in the USA. If you look at the French, and other countries that have universal healthcare you will find the same.

The moment I hear a Democrat spew that false narrative I become very apprehensive about the rest of their rhetoric. Things need to be black and white, we cannot accept grey areas from our candidates, we get enough of that from the republicans.

If you have any doubts about what I wrote here, check out the interview Chris Mathews had with Warren where she tries to explain it to Mathews as he, in his usual way interrupts constantly because, no one knows more than he does.

could save billions from suffering and billions spent on suffering.

All we do with conventional care is draw blood and run tests. Patients become depleted, drained, and dissipated as much as dead.
I'm sure most don't enjoy it.

They wanted to take her off dialysis which would have killed her in 3 days. She went on to live for another year no thanks to them.

she was not an appropriate candidate for hospice. But this is a very inexact art, not a science.

It has been around even before Nixon. The industry made money just not kingly levels of profits. It can provide cadillac plans or specialty services. Or offer to cover that last 20%.

If you are very rich, Medicare for all won't change a thing for you.

That’s all I got to see but it made me remember what all the fuss was about. He’s very eloquent in a humble way and that’s rare.
