Joe BidenCongratulations to our presumptive Democratic nominee, Joe Biden!

Wed Jul 31, 2019, 09:51 PM

Nobody won the debate tonight.

And I think the favorable ratings of Harris, Biden, and Gillibrand will fall. Stand outs for me were Yang, Inslee, and Gabbard. Booker also did well.

5. Well...last night the pundits said Biden won

Her comment about first strike being a mistake was a big mistake on her part. Not good foreign policy

10. Since then we have had a debate ... tonight

And Biden is getting a just ok for tonight. So, yeah, after two nights and both debates now history, Warren won.

11. Yeah not so much

Warren shined last night. The first thing anyone had to say tonight is ... how would he have handled Warren on the stage?

3. Innslee looks like Drew Carey

... so not scary looking. Reassuring, comfortable as an old shoe.

I think Elizabeth Warren would have come off well in this group tonight...

4. Booker was the only one good tonight, maybe Tulsi.

All the rest of them didn't rise to the occasion.

I have to agree ... by comparison Elizabeth Warren is looking and sounding more and more like a strong nominee.
Sanders was good, too, last night.

21. I predicted possible breakouts by Booker and Gabbard, and while I think some others...

...may have beat low expectations... i.e. probably the entire rest of the lower tier came off better than they did last time (Yang, Inslee, Gillibrand, Castro, Bennett)... I don't think any of them has much of a chance of seeing a noticeable bump. They get credit for making about as much as they could out of their last hurrah, though.

I'll be curious to see if Booker and/or Gabbard can make enough of a dent in polling that they can make it into the next debate, considering that the debate probably went about as well for them as it possibly could have, in terms of generating some extra buzz.
(p.s. - my pretty successful pre-debate prediction was at https://www.democraticunderground.com/1287219277 )

22. Bingo. Very few people are paying attention at this point.

This period of time leading up to Iowa is about winnowing the field and little else. We'll be down to 5 or 6 serious contenders and then 2-4. After Super Tuesday, it's over.

got into that long back and forth with Biden. I would have put him as the winner hands down prior to the koolaid comments.

12. Yang and Inslee won on substance. Biden and Harris lost.

Joe Biden proved to me tonight that he doesn't have a clue about what's wrong with healthcare in this country.

SO BLOODY WHAT if we have to raise taxes to pay for Medicare for All when WE WOULD REAP FAR MORE IN SAVINGS by cutting out private insurance company profits.

SO BLOODY WHAT if Medicare for All is going to mean a thirty trillion dollar Federal expenditure when WE WOULD REAP FAR MORE IN SAVINGS by cutting out private insurance company profits.

14. M4A is falling in the polls. Unfortunately it's not a winning plan

1. Americans like the ACA
2. The repukes are dying for the Dems to adopt m4a. They will beat us over the head with ...how it will raise taxes and the voting public will buy it...

20. Why do you think Biden's favorables will fall?

I think this was probably the best I've seen him this year. I'd be surprised if anyone who looked at him favorably before last night is not looking at him favorably today.
