Democratic Primaries
Related: About this forumJohn Delaney: When others drop out of the 2020 race, I will shine
Jewish InsiderDelaney has been running for president for more than two years. Hes spent millions of dollars of his personal fortune and repeatedly crisscrossed the state of Iowa and is polling below the margin of error.
This process has left Delaney with frustrations about the 2020 primary. We have several people running for president and theyve never done any public service in their life, Delaney told Jewish Insider in a recent interview. Never served in office. Which is what our current president has. Thats crazy. And the American people should reject that out of hand. But theyre not.
Delaney is particularly concerned that the social media primary has become the first contest of 2020. The Maryland Democrat argued historically you had the Iowa caucuses first and the New Hampshire primary second. And those were vetting processes. That didnt determine the president, but they told the American people: Weve kicked the tires on those individuals as human beings. And weve decided that these couple of people are really worthy of your serious consideration based on sitting down with them person to person.

(11,990 posts)He does better against Ryan, De Blasio, Gillibrand, Williamson, and Inslee.
If those five dropped out, maybe he could clean up and skyrocket to something approaching 2%.
It's undemocratically irritating that it seems like he's counting on candidates who are MORE popular than he is dropping out. The strategy seems to be to survive longer then more desirable candidates, based on having the money to essentially buy his way past these candidates who people actually prefer, since they can run out of money and he won't.

And he still can't break 1%.
If you don't want a Warren/Sanders left candidate, you've got Biden, Harris, Buttigieg, Beto, Klobuchar, and others who are likewise more moderate/centrist. If despite everything above, no one is supporting him, I don't understand what he thinks he has to offer that those others don't, other than enough money to think it doesn't matter.
