(9,315 posts)yet the American people will hear it because there are two that are running against him. Actually, there might be more as time goes on. He won't like hearing them slam him.

(9,315 posts)I can't take any more of this toxic sledge. I just wondered if he would do it or not. I guess none of really know is the answer. He could say yes and then be a no show on the day of the debate. That is more his style. Puke

(7,886 posts)and use it to suck all the media attention away from the Dems.
I dont' think they can muster enough support to pull away form him, it'll just be a media circus that will feed him more free publicity.

(3,721 posts)...a Hail Mary by non-trumpian republicans to save themselves and their loathsome party...
...all the more reason for every Dem to wrap trump around every republican, past, present and future as far as the eye can see...
...the knife fight for the republican party and what it stands for once trump's gone, will be a wonderful sight to behold...
...I can hardly wait for trump's mocking smear-rally the night of a debate...
...should there be a debate...

(25,406 posts)will simply say, "You have to have over five percent in four polls..."
If that doesn't work, they'll raise it to ten percent.

(9,315 posts)The RNC will prevent it from happening. Although, maybe there could be informal debates set up by the media or other organizations.

(19,900 posts)Not legitimate contenders like Reagan in 76 or Kennedy in 80, not even really in the same league as Buchanan in 92.
Its Trump Republican party, he owns it.

(25,406 posts)then that would be a big deal. You're absolutely right about Weld and whats-his-name being niche candidates.

(15,675 posts)I don't like him, but he's at least as big a douchebag as Trump. He's now apologizing for his racist BS that he spewed years ago, but he had a temper (remember him yelling at constituents who asked questions he didn't like at a town hall?), and he's had practice with his oratory skills since hosting a radio show. The other republican candidates in 2016 - and even Hillary - would get snarky with Trump while trying to take the high ground. Walsh might try to out-asshole him.

(11,878 posts)Need someone like Mark Appalachian Trail Sanford or Magic Underwear Mitt to mount a challenge that would get enough media attention to merit tv debates that Trump would undoubtedly boycott.

(54,410 posts)ALL of the following should run as Indies in the general
Kasich
Weld
McMullin
Sanford
Walsh
those 5 draw from different types of conservatives (with some overlap)
if they all ran, they would pull at least 5% combined total away from Trump and ensure he lost
Plus the Libertarian candidate (especially Gary Johnson again) will draw off too
Kasich may not do it, as he has eyes on 2024 I am sure, and doesn't want to piss off a Party that is supporting Trump around 90% or more atm

(54,410 posts)reclaim the House in in 2022, then take back the POTUS in 2024.
I think that is a fair assessment of the never Trumpers.

(54,410 posts)House for 2 and they might go for it. If they also had the House after 2020 (all 4 years then) I think they really accept that. I we had a POTUS Warren or Sanders and Rethug control of both chambers, it will be a an all-out war, that is for sure. Biden maybe a wee bit less, BUT forget any SCOTUS for Dems ever again when The Rethugs control the Senate. They will block for 8 straight years of Biden if need be (until they lose control.) They do not even Moscow Mitch to do that, their next Senate Leader will do the same thing (might be Tom Cotton, who is a monster too.)
Cotton is the younger Rethug I am most worried about as a POTUS down the road, and/or Senate Leader (mainly there if he is Majority Leader.) He is whip smart, utterly ruthless, a decorated vet, tall, imposing, a total war monger, and a fundie to boot, but not a loony tunes appearing type like Pence. He is a sinister up and coming force.

THere will be no serious Republican challengers to Trump.

(26,081 posts)He knows he was totally outclasses and his bullying moves will get called out this time, so I really doubt he agrees to it. He'll say America knows and loves me and they don't need this or some other lame BS excuse to hide his drug addiction, ignorance, stupidity, meanness, criminality and treason.

(9,990 posts)could offer to avail him- or herself to participate in a series of televised town hall discussions including Q&A's on a variety of issues -- health care, climate change, immigration, foreign policy, etc. These events would be an open invitations to both major party candidates. If Trump does not show up, the moderator would indicate that he was also invited but declined. If he does decide to show up, he is revealed to be the imbecilic inept jerk that he is, only far worse than four years earlier.

(26,081 posts)I hope that is what they'd do and bet that would cause drumpf at the last minute to jump in and try to mess everything up, making him look even weaker and ignorant than usual. Any Dem who wouldn't mop the floor with him wouldn't be trying and I'm sure our great candidate (whoever she or he might be) will wipe the floor with him.
