I am of two minds on splitting the debate now. If it was 5-6 people on stage at a time, I think it would make for a better debate. But I would also like to see all the leading candidates on the same stage.
The random drawings for stage positions leave something to be desired.

(5,376 posts)I think he's more likely to stay in as a boutique Democratic candidate and try to get some convention face time.

(24,282 posts)I have a friend from my younger days in Silicon Valley. He started a company that he sold for a billion dollars. Other investors had to be paid, but his net worth is estimated to be in the upper hundreds of millions of dollars. He has spent over 50 million dollars running in elections he probably knows he cannot win.

Can't argue that some contempt for representative democracy isn't always justified, and some times more than others, but becoming part of what is contemptible and desperately needs to be fixed isn't.

(560 posts)But it shouldnt be randomly broken out. There should be an upper group (Biden, Sanders, Warren, Harris, and Buttigieg) and a lower group (the other six). Watching guys polling 2% try to take shots at the expense of the leaders is annoying.

(5,376 posts)I would prefer, at this point, that they do it as you suggested, have a top tier debate and a lower tier debate.

(24,282 posts)is interested in ratings. They will get more viewers (and more ad revenue) if they split the top tier people over the two nights.
