Democratic Primaries

I've had it with politicians who won't admit it when they got something wrong.
Castro is destroying his future in Democratic politics tonight.

(86,005 posts)...amazing to hear Biden talking down to Castro on an issue he's intimately connected to, immigration.
A lot of what the former VP said was clipped speech and sometimes unintelligible. I think it had to do with how upset he appeared throughout, especially at the beginning when he was berating Bernie and Warren.

(25,487 posts)....rightfully so.
But more than that... Castro's mean-spirited attack will kill whatever goodwill Castro had in the Democratic Party.
Castro will be out of the race within two weeks. Everything will dry up... money, endorsements, everything.
Tonight was a mortal wound to Castro's candidacy.

He has a bright political future, maybe not in the WH, but who knows. No telling from this debate.
Amazing how Biden gets a pass for his tirades at several participants.

Anyone who cant afford it gets automatically enrolled in the Medicare-type option we have, Biden said of his plan.

I suspect that will even out in the coming months as more voters other than the politically dedicated folks at DU and elsewhere weigh in. When inevitable candidates find themselves in a more competitive race, all of the opportunistic nonsense about 'political obituaries,' given an air of credence by the media's self-actualizing polls, won't be coming from the same quarters of our Democratic field as today.

(53,061 posts)In the earlier debate was the stupidest gambit by any Democratic politician in recent history (and yes I have more experience and expertise on the subject). Days after the debate key figures in Obama's administration explained the error and Castro was regulated to gadfly status among leadership.
It's really too bad because I originally thought he was destined for greatness. He is either knowledgeable but recklessly ambitious or incredibly shallow. Not since John Edwards have I been so wrong about a politician that I admired, and I didn't even see his widely panned performance tonight.
My best friend who I normally watch the debate strongly disagree over Castro's earlier performance and still admired him texted me "Castro absolutely destroyed himself tonight".

(102,328 posts)First, he was wrong in his accusation about what Biden said or didn't say. Worst, his attack was damned cruel against a man that whether you support him or not is widely viewed as a kind and good man.
Castro will not recover. He didn't simply look opportunistic and desperate, but cruel.

(15,318 posts)Castro was right. He's still right. Fact checkers aren't automatically right because they call themselves fact checkers. Calling out Biden is perfectly fine to do. Castro did nothing wrong tonight. And he was right. Buying in is not the same thing. Biden was equally as strident earlier against Sanders and Warren regarding MFA, and no one has said one word. And, as someone pointed out elsewhere, I'd argue his "This is America" comment aimed at Bernie was hardly civil. Unity, indeed.

"...Look, there's institutional segregation in this country. And from the time I got involved, I started dealing with that. Red lining, banks, making sure we are in a position wherelook, you talk about education. I propose that what we take is those very poor schools, the Title I schools, triple the amount of money we spend from $15 to $45 billion a year. Give every single teacher a raise to the equal raise of getting out of the $60,000 level. Number two, make sure that we bring in to help the teachers deal with the problems that come from home. We need, we have one school psychologist for every 1,500 kids in America today. It's crazy. the teachers arei'm married to a teacher, my deceased wife is a teacher. They have every problem coming to them. We have to make sure that every single child does, in fact, have 3-, 4-, and 5-year-olds go to schoolschool, not daycare, school. We bring social workers into homes with parents to help them deal with how to raise their children. It's not want they don't want to help, they don't know quite what to do. Play the radio, make sure the television excuse me, make sure you have the record player on at night, the phonemake sure that kids hear words, a kid coming from a very poor schoola very poor background will hear 4 million words fewer spoken by the time they get there. (7,433 posts)I wanted to see him do some coherent ranting. Others were able to do it. I couldn't get past 4-5 consecutive words' worth of a thought before he'd slur, change topics, or make some distracting grunt. Then he'd go on to another thought. Drove me nuts. I was looking for something inspirational from Biden, something rhetorically elegant. I got a face that's been stretched.

It was exciting. Didn't learn much in that class though. Lotsa kids thought it was funny to open the cabinet.

(34,857 posts)No offense but DU's interpretation of this race is remarkably consistent with how it played out in 2016 - just replace Warren with Sanders. There's DU reality and the other reality. In the other reality, stuff like that doesn't matter.

(13,055 posts)compared to everyone else in the field - even Elizabeth & Bernie - Joe is by far the most qualified, heavily experienced, and the most well-spoken candidate for the job of POTUS. Castro needs to pay his respects to the elders before he comes out swinging like that. He is a still rather wet behind the ears compared to Joe. He's now lost his chances of being selected for VEEP by Joe.
I hope he will learn from this and mend fences, as Kamala learned the hard way. I liked her directing her attacks to the Idiot and not to Joe yesterday. I think she would be a great candidate, along with Beto, for VEEP.
