Axios: Wisconsin women's focus group prefer Trump's personality to Warren

APPLETON, Wis. — Elizabeth Warren's left-wing populism is gaining popularity among some swing voters here, but they're not ready to embrace her for 2020.

Why it matters: In a small, all-women focus group, some participants suggested President Trump would win on personality if the contest was between him and Warren — and that their doubts about her aren't based on substance.

These were the main takeaways from our Engagious/FPG focus group last week, which included 7 women who flipped from Barack Obama in 2012 to Trump in 2016, and 2 who switched from Mitt Romney to Hillary Clinton.
While a focus group is not a statistically significant sample like a poll, these responses show how some voters are thinking and talking about the 2020 election in crucial counties.

The big picture: Most of the group preferred a left-leaning set of policies to a right-leaning set when no names were attached. But when listening to Warren talk about them in clips from the last debate, they were skeptical of her — and not because of the policies.

And the blunt language made it clear that Warren faces the kind of obstacles confronted by many strong leaders who are women.

We have to be prepared that a lot of people aren't comfortable with a female president, which is not right. But misogyny and sexism is real. The bad part is that women seem to do anything to find a reason to vote against another woman. Yes I know Hillary won the popular vote, but once again, we didn't get the turnout in states that mattered.

if they like Trump there is something really fucked up with them. they are trying to find excuses to support trump. since they are too stupid to debate issues and don't want to admit they are bigots they will say something like they like his personality.

fuck them.

Focus Groups are non-scientific but they're designed to elicit information on attitudes and opinions. If you have evidence that Axios is pushing an "agenda", feel free to provide it.

The worst thing we can do is ignore news that we don't like and plan our campaigns based only on opinions that agree with ours.

Appleton, Wisconsin as the basis of a focus group? Give me a break. The Fox Valley is Trumpland.

In cases you didn’t know, Appleton has a lovely building which is home to The John Birch Society. Just saying.

Add to this that if you don't vote for a woman because you feel "other people" are too sexist to elect a woman President, then in real practical terms, you are the one advancing sexism regardless of if you feel you are motivated by sexism or not.

Trump vs Warren

Participants suggested President Trump would win on personality if the contest was between him and Warren.

So Trump's honed TV personality is a qualifying trait to be president? If so, ladies you are FIRED!

How about honesty? That's not Trump.

How about having the intellectual abilities to seek out and use expert advice? Not this "stable genius".

How about being a decent compassionate human being for starts? Again not this evil individual who cages children.

How about obeying the rule of law?
Where does one begin to document his transgressions?
How about the violation of the emoluments clause of the U.S. Constitution.

filled with people like me. I'm sick and tired of trumper bullshit being forced down my throat.

Also, when they say:

...some participants suggested President Trump would win on personality if the contest was between him and Warren

Are the participants predicting that other voters will prefer trump's personality, or are they saying that they themselves prefer trump's personality? If the former, that changes everything. But I'm not going to read the article. My interest stops here.

I can't imagine how anyone would have trouble deciding between Trump or Hillary, but they're out there and some were gathered up for this exercise.

Why I don't know. But I'm guessing there isn't enough substance or principle among the lot of them to keep a helium balloon from floating away.
