MAJ Gabbards comment in the debate

Last edited Wed Oct 16, 2019, 09:54 PM - Edit history (1)

She mentioned that a Democratic CNN commentator called her a Russian asset. I had to look it up and it’s true. I don’t agree with everything she does.

Accusing a military officer of being a traitor is a serious thing. It can trigger a CID / FBI investigation, hold a security clearance or promotion.

And frankly I think a lot of the people yelling “Russian agent” are just childish. I was glad to see Ms April Ryan pushing back.

If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for:
Joe Biden

I outrank her, and yes, I think she has a curious set of beliefs that seem to align in favor of a certain nation a lot.

And being "a traitor" is a pretty narrow accusation with a very specific definition.

She definitely is someone I don't want anywhere near the WH. I would prefer if she went back to being a private citizen to be honest.

calling her an "asset" does not equate to traitor in any legal sense. We are not at war with Russia (or any other country currently) which is a mandatory component for committing treason. So, your claim that that would trigger a CID/FBI investigation is nonsense unless they already had reason unrelated to launch a counterintelligence investigation which there is zero reason to believe.

Some of her policies are quite in keeping with Trump's and likewise Putin's priorities. One could say the same about isolationist Rand Paul to some similar degree. That does not have to be intentional nor seditious. I find them to reflect highly questionable judgment, but I do not believe anything more than that. That said, I would find it exceedingly difficult to support her and actually hope that she loses her Congressional primary and seat as well. Fox news will snap her up as a pundit if she does as she already appears frequently there to some success it would appear.

I meant to be quite collegial with you but need to explain that your understanding of the legalities re: treason is plain wrong. If being corrected strikes you as being condescended to, I don't know what to tell you as that was not my intention. Everyone here is corrected as some time or another, myself included. I'd encourage you not to take it personally.

I see that many here are countering your impressions and respect for Gabbard. If that has upset you, I can fully understand, but they DO have a point. You, of course, are free to disagree and to defend her but I would suggest not taking differing opinions quite so personally.

6. There are suspicions about both her and trump. IMO there's no doubt trump is a Putin asset.

The jury is still out on her but many of her moves and statements are questionable. She met with trump at trump tower after the election; appeared on FOX multiple time bashing Obama; when the Mueller report came out she claimed there was no collusion and no crimes committed and we should move on as a country; she's a big favorite of Breitbart and many on the right; last night in the debate she said we backed Al Queada in Syria; and now abstaining on the vote in the House on trump's Syria move—she just makes moves that are certainly suspicious and not what one would expect from a Democrat, maybe a winger repug but not an allegedly progressive Democrat.

IMO she's a mole for someone.

She's probably not actively working for the Russians.

She does, however, have a lot of nationalist sympathies and as such finds herself in defense of others who do like Putin and Assad.
