Impeachment Trial Could Hurt Presidential Campaigns

Impeachment Trial Could Hurt Presidential Campaigns

"SNIP.....

BuzzFeed News: “An impeachment trial would consume every senator’s schedule. Under the Senate’s current rules, all senators must be in session Monday through Saturday, starting at around noon each day. The trial may last several weeks — Bill Clinton’s impeachment trial lasted five — thus taking several candidates off the campaign trail the month before the primaries start.”

“That’s a major problem for the six senators running to be the Democratic nominee for president — Cory Booker, Michael Bennet, Kamala Harris, Amy Klobuchar, Bernie Sanders, and Elizabeth Warren.”

“In theory, the Senate could change its rules and lighten the schedule. But that would require unanimous consent from both Democrats and Republicans, and that’s unlikely.”

Opting to put on a full defense of the President to "change the narrative" by conducting a trial with subpoenas, depos, witness, etc. Bring it on, I say!

It sounds though that Senators see impeachment as a certainty. It's just a matter of when.

That is no longer in doubt, whether the repugs in the Senate vote to convict is what is now in doubt.

With all the evidence that is coming out everyday, trump and the repugs crimes won't help their image to voters IMO.

Relative motion between the candidates has been pretty minimal, all things considered. I doubt it really impacts the trajectory much, other than some major problem in performance by one of those performers. I can see it giving them an increase in visibility, at the expense of the others. But in the end, I think it's a wash,

bring it to the House for a vote nor the Senate for a trial until after the election.
Why? Varies reasons.
The main one is because it generates heat under the feet of the Repugnants in the House and Senate such as Susan Collins as they waste resources that they could use on their own campaigns to try to protect Trump every time he steps on a new landmine.
Besides we risk nothing at this point by waiting to see if he even wins a 2nd term at which point if he loses he can be charged like the common criminal that he is and if he wins we can then impeach him.

What Trump has done is an affront to the very office he represents. There is logic in holding off for a time in order to make the Republicans uncomfortable. It applies pressure where needed and forces them to defend a losing position or finally forces them to admit Trump is wrong and should be impeached. However, holding off till after the election just for political sake reeks of the same dirty tactics that most of the republicans are using.

I disagree that we risk nothing by waiting. If we wait till after the election, we give another talking point to Republicans that this was done just for political gain and that impeachment was just a stunt. The general public will in turn agree because all they see is this never ending investigation and accusations but no action on it.

If we drag this out till after the election, not only is it wrong, it goes against the oath our representatives took when elected.

Waiting is not worth the risk. Do it now while you have the gavel. Worse yet he wins re-election and we lose the house there is nothing stopping his criminal regime outside of a party who is winning the keys to their own judgement. Even if you mixed the results and the Republicans win the house and we win the White House impeachment will just become a political football we will try to impeach a lame duck president and they would clearly be gearing up for a revenge tour.

You have to agree he did help drag them down like an anchor in the last election, right?
So you would you agree that it's likely it will happen again as long as he keeps stepping on those landmines?
Would you then agree that strategically it might be better to use the discussion of the investigation to weaken the Republicans because of how they're defending him?

An Impeachment really sucks the air out of the room.

I certainly believe that he needs to be impeached and removed from office, resign to spend more time with his family (or money or whatever) but the media will focus on the shiny object and not the substance of the needed debate of ideas.
