Veteran: "Tulsi Gabbard is a fake"

This is a very interesting look at Tulsi Gabbard from a veteran and Bernie Sanders supporter who dealt with her directly. (I normally wouldn't post something like this, but I believe she is a disruptive and dangerous force in our party and must be exposed and called out before she does some real harm to our chances of getting Trump out of the White House)

Here's the full thread from Threadreader: https://threadreaderapp.com/thread/1185346410381742082.html?fbclid=IwAR2yM92E1pjpzLNqQhETAgePpWhL4Q1Nybk2Bx5jVsCvGA0o7q9w56sd4Yk

@USMCLiberal

I met with #TulsiGabbard in 2016, while campaigning for Bernie.

I was a State Director for Vets For Bernie at the time (not supporting him this election) and our vet organization was having some issues with the campaign.

I had raised the issues, so they sent in Tulsi.

The issue we had was that the campaign had been completely ignoring us.

No mentions, no retweets, no events—nothing.

We had built a liberal veteran organization, numbering some 15K, and the campaign refused to acknowledge us.

So we let them know we weren’t happy about that.

It seemed perfectly logical to us, that promoting the fact that Bernie had that kind of veteran support would be a huge benefit.

So we pressed them on this, and they came back with a plan for a veteran event for Bernie to speak at.

It was to be in NYC, and we contacted all the vets we could to be there.

Plans were made, time off work prepared for, and flights booked.

But at the last minute, they canceled on us—so that Bernie could fly to Rome, and receive an award from the Pope.

He’s not even catholic.

Naturally, this upset us. And a number of our vets said “screw it”, and left the organization.

That’s when I notified the campaign that we were fed up with how they were running things, and were going to start talking about the incident publicly.

Enter #TulsiGabbard.

They set up a meeting for us to speak, but I knew she would just try to placate us and squash the issue.

So we met, and talked for quite a while.

When I asked her why the campaign wasn’t promoting Vets For Bernie, she said—and I’m quoting here—“appealing to veterans is not a winning strategy in a Democratic primary.”

That was interesting, considering the fact that she touts her veteran status at every opportunity.

When I further explained that we weren’t seeking the “veteran vote” —only trying to highlight Bernie’s veteran support—she still acted like it wasn’t a worthwhile endeavor.

Again— she’s a veteran.

They were upset by the fact that I’d threatened to go public with the fact that they’d snubbed our vets for a trip to the Vatican, so I explained why we’d made that threat.

I used an analogy, as I often do.

I said, “Vets For Bernie is a powerful weapon. But you don’t realize that, because you refuse to use it. Sometimes, you don’t know the full power of a weapon until it’s used against you. That’s what we’re trying to show you.”

The meeting ended pleasantly.

Or so I thought...

The next day I was told by the director of Vets For Bernie, that Tulsi was offended by my use of a “weapon analogy.”

That was her takeaway.

An Iraq War veteran, was “offended” that another Iraq War veteran used an analogy about a weapon?

No.

No.

She wasn’t “offended.”

She was just playing the game.

She’s a two faced politician—nothing more.

It was simply their attempt to silence my objections, and discredit my position.

It ended up causing quite an issue for me as a State Director for VFB.

I didn’t leave the organization, but I was effectively silenced — as were our objections to being snubbed for the Pope.

I guess I’m crazy for thinking that our veterans should be more important to a presidential candidate, than a foreign religious leader.

Even if he is the goddamn Pope.

But I don’t even care about that incident anymore.

What sticks with me is how Gabbard responded — with an attempt to smear me, by claiming I’d “offended her.”

#TulsiGabbard will say and do whatever she can to protect herself, and get ahead.

Believe me when I say this:

She can’t be trusted.

I was content to keep this little incident to myself.

And in the grand scheme of things, it’s not a “big story.”

But seeing her recent behaviors: threatening to boycott the debates, and acting as a Democratic Party disruptor—

I thought I’d share it.

#TulsiGabbard is a fake.

I don’t know what her agenda is, but it’s not “what’s best for the nation.”

Whatever it is, it revolves around what’s best for her.

And she’ll trash any group or person who gets in the way of her ascension— including her fellow veterans.

If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for:
Joe Biden

VATICAN CITY (REUTERS) - Pope Francis met US presidential candidate Bernie Sanders on Saturday morning (April 16) before leaving for a visit to the Greek island of Lesbos, a participant at the meeting said.

Columbia University Professor Jeffrey Sachs told Reuters that the meeting took place in the Vatican guesthouse where the pope lives and where Sanders had spent the night after addressing a Vatican conference on social justice.

The Vatican said before the conference that a meeting had not been planned. Sachs said Sanders, who was accompanied by his wife, and the pope spoke for about five minutes. Sachs, his wife and a Vatican official were also in the room, Sachs said.

Columbia professor Jeffrey Sachs, who was at the meeting, said Sanders got word that the Pope wanted to meet at 6 a.m. before he left for Greece to meet with refugees.
https://www.cnn.com/2016/04/16/politics/bernie-sanders-pope-francis-vatican-visit/index.html

At first, it was uncertain whether Sanders would be able to secure any face-time with the understandably busy Pope, but the candidate was optimistic as he prepared for the trip, saying, “I certainly would be delighted and proud if I had the opportunity to meet with him.” Fortunately for him, his local liaison Bishop Marcelo Sánchez Sorondo was close to Francis and helped facilitate an audience for Sanders with the Pope at the Casa Santa Marta, the Vatican guesthouse where Francis keeps his residence.

As schedules continued to shift and Sanders bounced from meeting to meeting around the Vatican, the certainty of the Pope’s availability became increasingly cloudy. But while seated at dinner with foreign policy advisor Jeffrey Sachs and their wives Jane and Sonia, respectively, Sanders received the news he had been hopefully awaiting. His time with the Pope would be informal and brief, a quick meet-and-greet in the foyer of the Casa Santa Marta at 6 A.M. the next morning, but he had been granted an audience.

Also, I googled for anything about Bernie, or anyone, saying he was getting an award from the Pope. Nothing. You need to provide your source for that.

from Sanders, who ASKED for a chance to meet the Pope, and must have thought the publicity for this would help him with the Catholic vote.

But all he got were quotes like this one from your CNN piece:

Speaking to reporters on the Papal Plane on the way back from Lesbos, Greece, Pope Francis said his handshake with Sanders was not a political act but simply good manners.

"It's called manners and not getting involved in politics. If anyone thinks that a greeting is getting involved in politics, then I recommend they look for a psychiatrist," the Pope said, laughing.

And from your Vanity Fair piece:

At first, it was uncertain whether Sanders would be able to secure any face-time with the understandably busy Pope, but the candidate was optimistic as he prepared for the trip, saying, “I certainly would be delighted and proud if I had the opportunity to meet with him.” Fortunately for him, his local liaison Bishop Marcelo Sánchez Sorondo was close to Francis and helped facilitate an audience for Sanders with the Pope at the Casa Santa Marta, the Vatican guesthouse where Francis keeps his residence.

SNIP

Francis, meanwhile, wanted to ensure that his encounter with Sanders would not be construed as a partisan gesture of support. He had a characteristically candid remark for the press inquiring about whether the Pope might back a Sanders candidacy:

“I shook his hand and nothing more,” he said. “If someone thinks that greeting someone means getting involved in politics, I recommend that he find a psychiatrist!”

gave him some kind of honor, or was the one who tried to set up the meeting.

So why did Sanders cancel his event with the vets in order to go to the Vatican and cross-his-fingers that he'd get a meet and greet? Why didn't he wait for a time that wouldn't conflict with a meeting the veterans had been working to set up?

Also, many of the reports made it sound as if Pope Francis hadn't been given much of a heads up, if any, about the meet and greet. Someone, perhaps Sanders's friend, arranged for the Sanders to be there just as Pope Francis was leaving on his trip.

https://qz.com/663579/the-pope-met-with-bernie-sanders-out-of-politeness-and-good-manners-he-says/

To the Pope, however—well, even the word “meeting” seems to overstate how he saw their encounter. He made a point of clarifying that the handshake and pleasantries they exchanged should not be seen as a political endorsement.

“This morning when I was leaving, Senator Sanders was there,” he told reporters in Italian aboard the papal airliner today, after his visit to the refugee-filled Greek island of Lesbos. “He knew I was leaving at that time and he had the courtesy to greet me. I greeted him, his wife, and another couple who were there and were sleeping in Santa Martha. This is called good manners and it is not getting involved in politics.”

Added the Pope, laughing, “If anyone thinks that greeting someone is getting involved in politics, I recommend that he look for a psychiatrist.”

The Vatican initially had said there would be no meeting between Sanders and the Pope this weekend, and some officials had accused him of wrangling an invitation to the conference, and of pandering to the Catholic vote.

....of course there was no award from the Pope, we all know that. But that was what his campaign told the veterans as an excuse to ditch them in order to go on his $800K Roman Holiday.

As for "bouncing from meeting to meeting", there was ONE meeting, at which he appeared for a few minutes, and he even rudely swept right past a woman who was greeting him to shake the hand of a man at that meeting. Here's the video:

Pope's word that there was no award? No meeting scheduled (true at first, but, per Cnn and Vanity Fair, scheduled the day before)? Did Bernie say there was a meeting scheduled before it actually was? What are your sources?

As for how many meetings Bernie attended, again, what are your sources? I'll believe Vanity Fair before I believe some random DU poster with a grudge.

And finally, "swept past a woman to shake the hand of a man": please reply with the time this happened in your video because i guess i missed it. Also, Gish Gallop is a very hollow argument.

Every time I see or hear Tulsi Gabbard, my blood runs cold. It doesn't matter what she says, whom she is with, whatever she is doing or promoting.

I tried to figure out why: She is beautiful, dresses well, presents herself well, is articulate, informed, educated, a veteran, etc.

Then it struck me - it is the dissonance between her facial expression and what she is saying. She might act offended, or happy, or "passionate," or any other emotion, but there is really little change in her face. She smiles, but her eyes do not smile. There is no warmth, no sincerity expressed. There is no connection with the people around her.

She is a female Jared Kushner.

but Tulsi simply defended herself.

Why did Clinton start this fight? It would have been footnote but now we are going to get a soap opera.

Tulsi is correct about one thing but I can't say it here.

What makes you think Clinton "started" anything? Gabbert's been going after her for years.

And pointing out that she's a favorite of the Russians isn't a criticism of her any more than noting that David Duke thinks she's great. It's just a fact.

and please, do share with us what do you think Tulsi is right about. Surely she didn't say anything that would violate DU rules did she?

She went off on a tirade of almost Trumpian proportions.

I'm kinda surprised people are defending her. Kinda.

That doesn't mean I think Hillary didn't make (another) mistake with this stunt. IMO it'll just help whoever does decide to run as a third party candidate, if anyone does, which I hope doesn't happen (but would wager it will).

Damn Straight we would have been. So in 2019-2020, the saying is SPEAK LOUDLY and CARRY A HUGE STICK.

Thank you, Hillary!

If Hillary Clinton thought there was something that smelled fishy, that’s a strong indicator that something WAS fishy. She’s called it pretty spot-on the vast majority of the time. And she’s been around way long enough to have developed some good instincts. And she’s seldom made rash statements as far as I’ve observed.

I’ve learned to trust her assessments.

"I think Clinton made a mistake honestly. She could have just kept her mouth shut."

She has every right to speak her mind and telling her to sit down and shut up is beyond belief. She knows far more about what happened than we do. The candidates and Obama got detailed briefings. The GOP/ MITCH tied Obama's hands and refused to issue warnings.

FACT!

Never tell a woman to sit down and shut up.

"sit down and shut up!" She obviously has every right to speak her mind just like anyone else. She does, however, set an example. In my honest opinion, this was a mistake. It has nothing to do with sex or how I voted in 2016. I voted for Hillary and was proud of it. I was disappointed that she decided to pick this fight.
It was naive at best. So I guess it is ok to tell me to sit down and shut up huh?

Is the same thing as telling her to sit down and shut up. Same thing.

I don't have issues with you, jim. However I wish you would allow her a voice, She knows far more than the rest of us as to what went down.

I said she made a mistake.

Apparently, I can't do that? I can't hold that opinion because it is unacceptable thinking? Or perhaps, I can have that opinion, I should just be very very careful not to say that I do? Have I committed thought-crime or thought-speak. Help me here, I can't keep up.

I was trying to be generous and give her the benefit of the doubt. You are projecting what you think I meant on my statement. I definitely did NOT mean what you claim I meant.

I wonder if you are capable of reflecting even for a moment about why you are so sensitive to even a tiny bit of criticism of Hillary? Is it you have equated it with criticism of yourself? Not trying to get in a spat. I'm just honestly wondering why some are soooo sensitive about this. And, pardon me, but I'm pretty sure I know. Hey, I project too. At least when I do, I welcome becoming aware of it.

124. Interesting article from CNN on Kahele
Tue Oct 22, 2019, 12:06 AM
Oct 2019

This is an interesting article https://www.cnn.com/2019/10/21/politics/tulsi-gabbard-2020-hawaii-hillary-clinton/index.html?utm_medium=social&utm_term=image&utm_source=twCNNp&utm_content=2019-10-22T01%3A04%3A06

But local insiders say a primary challenge from state Sen. Kai Kahele is to be taken seriously, in part because he already has high-profile support among towering local officials.

That includes three former governors in the local Democratic establishment: Neil Abercrombie, Ben Cayetano and John Waihee, who don't often appear as a bloc.

"That gives a pretty good indication of how the mainstream Democratic Party here regards her," said Colin Moore, director of the Public Policy Center at the University of Hawaii.

Kahele told CNN on Monday that his campaign had its best day of fundraising when Gabbard and Clinton clashed.
Gabbard has not formally announced a reelection bid for her House seat. Candidates have until June 2, 2020, to file for that November's election.
