DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders is planning to release his health records by the end of the year.
The White House hopeful addressed his health Thursday in Iowa ahead of his first appearance in an early voting state since suffering a heart attack earlier in the month. The 78-year-old Vermont senator has repeatedly promised to release his health records at some point, but he outlined a likely timeline in an interview with The Associated Press.
"I want to make it comprehensive," Sanders said in explaining the delay. "The answer is I will, probably by the end of the year."
Campaign manager Faiz Shakir later said more definitively that Sanders does plan to release the records by the end of December. He expects the statement from Sanders' physician to show Sanders has made a "full recovery" from the heart attack.

Oh... you meant only Bernie... well, why don't ALL the candidates release their health records now?

(42,862 posts)Yes, they all should... but in Bernie's case, it's a bit more urgent. He's the only one who's had a heart attack and "fainting" or "trip and fall" episode where he lost his balance in the hotel bathroom... eventually having stents inserted to open up his clogged arteries.
The sooner people know the truth, the better... for everyone... but especially for Bernie (considering what we now know) and considering that we still don't know everything there is to know. I think the American voters deserve to know the truth.
Actually, all I'm saying is, if this had been done sooner, perhaps it would have made him aware and he wouldn't have even had the heart attack or dizzy spell in the first place. You can't outrun or hide from poor health forever, eventually it catches up with you.
It reminds me of something my dentist has on a sign in his office. It says: "Be true to your teeth, or they'll be false to you." Which is just a clever way of reminding people that if they don't take care of themselves, and if they're not HONEST about their health problems, it always has a way of coming back to cause problems later on.

Hmm, I don't believe Joe has committed to releasing his health records before January 1st now that I think about it.
He just said he would do it "before voting starts"...
Again, they all should release their records as far ahead as possible to give voters time to digest the information.

All the candidates should release all their health records before the year's end to give voters a chance to adequately process the information.
There is no excuse not to.

(67,782 posts)...he's been spry and healthy ever since. No secrets there. But even the surgeon who performed the procedure on Biden way back then says he's better now than he was decades ago.

He also suffered (and still does, to a degree) from severe stuttering, which he overcame too.
He's five or six years older than me, I wish I was as healthy as he is.

They say blood thinners can cause that.

(42,862 posts)There's a sense of urgency around that candidate's health... we deserve to know the truth. Does he have afib and is that the true cause of his dizzy spell (fainting spell) when he "tripped" in the hotel bathroom. Is he on blood thinners? What are his chances of having a stroke? How clogged are his arteries if he needed stents inserted? What else might be lurking that we haven't been told about?
American voters deserve to know the TRUTH about anyone they're considering voting for.

(5,376 posts)Politicians often cover up health issues.
And in fact, Politician's doctors often down play or out right lie about their candidates health issues.
We all remember Trump's doctor telling us how great his gene's were. lol
That is why EVERYONE should release their health records before the first of the year, so they can be validated.
So far, Biden is refusing to do that... he only says he will release his "before voting starts"
edit: Warren has not committed OFFICIALLY to releasing her medical records this year either. She Absolutely needs to do that too!

(42,862 posts)... see, the thing is... POTUS is a very stressful job and it ages even the most fit and vigorous men by 25 years before their term is complete. Seriously, just do the math. In addition to the stress, there are the sleepless nights, travel and jet-lag, and always being "on call". I'm looking to support a candidate who is still fit and who can withstand the mental and physical challenges... body, mind and soul... that come with the job of being the Leader of the Free-World.

Oh, "recently"... I missed that.
But, sometimes, don't repercussions from major surgeries show up years and even decades later as people age and get older?
My best friend had an aortic aneurysm and had surgery for that and complications arose 20 years later.

My best friend just had to have surgery to fix problems that developed from his aortic aneurysm surgery from 20 years ago.
I dunno.
It just seems strange that Joe won't release his medical records this year.
edit: Warren has not committed OFFICIALLY to releasing her medical records this year either. She Absolutely needs to do that too!
Are they trying to wait as long as possible before the elections for some reason that we don't know about?
Otherwise, as I have said repeatedly, ALL the candidates should release their medical records this year to give the public enough time to evaluate that information and make an informed decision before voting.
As you have said, the public deserves the truth!

Joe just says he will release his "before voting starts".
So how much "before"?
Obviously less than 2 months. One month then? One week? The day before voting starts?
edit: Warren has not committed OFFICIALLY to releasing her medical records this year either. She Absolutely needs to do that too!
So Warren needs to be less vague too.

(42,862 posts)What I can tell you is that Joe Biden isn't under a doctor's orders to "cut back" his campaigning, nor has he been hospitalized or sought emergency medical treatment twice recently. If he had, I'd be very interested in seeing his "medical records" as soon as possible too. But, as it is, there's really no sense of urgency around Joe Biden since he hasn't had a heart attack or stents for his clogged arteries and he hasn't had a fainting spell (or dizzy spell) and his doctor hasn't ordered him to cut-back.
So... when was Biden's "brain surgery"? I hadn't heard about it, can you provide more information?

Scare quotes around "brain surgery", does that mean you don't believe he had two brain surgeries for aneurysms?

Perhaps you think 1981 is ancient history, but here is what doctors said in 2008 when Biden last released medical records:
The 49 pages of Bidens medical history showed to the media included a report on his treatment following two surgeries for the aneurysms, which caused Biden to take a seven-month leave of absence from the Senate. Though some doctors say the likelihood that Biden will suffer another aneurysm is low, he is supposed to undergo regular examinations for weaknesses in his veins, which doctors say could cause a reoccurrence.

Biden has dealt with chronic asthma and allergies since childhood. He is prescribed Claritin-D and Flonase for the allergies, and he has scheduled sinus surgery in April to help alleviate some of his discomfort.

Two brain surgeries, irregular heartbeat, high cholesterol requiring medication, colon polyp surgery, medicated for an enlarged prostate, sinus surgery, removal of his gall bladder...
AND ALL THIS IS FROM BEFORE 2008, the last time Biden released his medical records.
I am not shocked at all the Joe Biden does not want to release his current medical records this year.

(5,376 posts)I wonder what other medical issues have cropped up since 2008?
All the candidates, AND THIS INCLUDES WARREN, need to release their full medical history this year so people can have enough time to process the information and make an informed decision before voting.
Sanders is deserves kudos for being the first to commit to this, not mockery. Biden, Warren, and the rest need to follow his lead and tell us all the medical issues, what medications people are or have taken and certainly all the surgeries and aftercare related to those.
I did not know until someone posted it in this thread that Biden is still being monitored for vein weakening as continuing follow up to his two brain surgeries over 30 years ago. The doctors in his 2008 records state that another aneurysm is a low probability but remains a possibility.
As someone else said in this thread -- The People Deserve the Truth.

(42,862 posts)Yes, I think 1981 is much longer ago than the recent BS medical emergencies. At least he hasn't needed to be rushed to the hospital for life-saving procedures, and he hasn't been instructed by his physicians to "cut back" on his campaigning due to the stress and hectic schedule.
All I'm saying is, if a candidate can't handle the "stress" and "hectic schedule" of a campaign, then that candidate would NEVER be able to deal with everything that comes with being POTUS.
Check with me again when Biden's doctors tell HIM to "cut back" and take it easy. If that ever happens, then I may have something different to say. Until then, you'll just have to accept what I've already said.

So, sure.. Warren needs to release her medical records as soon as possible, as does Biden and all the other candidates that plan on continuing to campaign next year. saying they will release medical records before voting starts is just too vague.
