Hillary Clinton almost ran on a Universal Basic Income

WOW - I had no idea...

I wonder if Dems would have had the same reaction to her version of this idea they did for Yang's.

Our field is set. Which is unfortunate IMO because I still want Al Franken to run.

And there is a limit to how much Biden will fade by. He still has tremendous support in South Carolina.

For all we know Buttigieg will win Iowa, Sanders will win New Hampshire, Warren will win Nevada and Biden will win South Carolina.

put words in your mouth, so I'm just asking. In either case, it's fine, but I'm curious why you might think that, if indeed that's what you're saying.

I actually hope Hillary DOES run, as Bill (and Hillary) recently seemed to imply was at least a possibility... one that I believe is a 50-50 chance.

Many STILL have never grasped how hard it was to convince her to run in 2016.

We had groups seriously lobbying for her and trying to persuade her to run since late 2014-early 2015. I know this because one very serious group even came to Geneva, Swtizerland in Spring 2015 and we had an excellent turnout of Dems Abroad here for her reps.

Hillary is well aware of all the RW hate groups that will come out in force specifically against her again - and this is even BEFORE the Russian bots start in on her.

To my knowledge, there have been no groups such as those pre-2016 seriously lobbying for her to run in the 2020 election. Yes, there have been rumors or hints.

But that's all they will remain, IMO.

Unless something very unexpected happens with the Dem candidates who are currently in the top tier. Frankly, I don't see that happening.

primary today, I would vote for:

IF - and you may think it's a BIG IF, but I don't - Joe continues to falter in the polls and it looks like he'll lose the initial primary contests, especially if he comes in 3rd or 4th in them, THEN the odds of Hillary jumping in the race go up DRAMATICALLY. Certainly, you can see that... that's all I'm saying.

Sat Nov 2, 2019, 12:17 PM
Nov 2019

That was a label she got tagged with, in a way that Joe Biden and John Kerry did not, because she was a former first lady who dared to try to go back to the White House as president. It was about saying that as a Clinton she could not represent change. In other words, it was about an insistence on viewing her as Bill Clinton's wife running for president, rather than a political figure in her own right.

Running on universal basic income, or single payer health care, would not have affected that.

primary today, I would vote for:

His version of UBI stacks with many types of benefits. The only change to existing benefit programs would be due to attrition from people who choose to forgo those benefits in favor of UBI.

That same change is included as an expected reduction in current costs in Bernie's FJG program. It's just different ways to get there.
