Obama Veterans: Joe Biden's Pledge to Work With GOP Is Delusional

https://www.thedailybeast.com/obama-veterans-joe-bidens-pledge-to-work-with-gop-is-delusional

Joe Biden insists that congressional Republicans will work with him once he’s elected president but no one, let alone those who worked with Biden in the last administration, actually believes him.

The former vice president’s latest promise of a forthcoming wave of bipartisan cooperation came on Monday night, when he told a crowd of fundraisers in Washington D.C. that he believed that when Donald Trump left office, GOP lawmakers would see the error of their ways. “[T]hese folks know better,” he explained. “They know this isn’t what they’re supposed to be doing.”

The line echoed comments that Biden reflects a strategy he’s adopted to appeal to voters as a throwback to a less divisive era and is based on the belief that the rest of the political establishment will join him there. But veterans of the Obama administration say that Biden is either being naive or is willfully selling voters on a political fairytale.

“Fuck no,” one senior Obama aide said when asked if Republicans would be willing to work with a hypothetical President Biden.

two years it will be virtually statistically impossible for the Democrats to get 60 votes in the Senate after the 2020 election. 43. I do. He said his intent with that vote was not to save the ACA.
Wed Nov 6, 2019, 09:12 PM
Nov 2019
McCain’s distaste for President Barack Obama’s health care law was no secret. While he agreed that the health care system was broken, he did not think more government involvement would fix it. Like most Republicans, he campaigned in his last Senate race on a promise to repeal and replace the law with something better.

After Republicans spent months bickering amongst themselves about what was better, McCain was disappointed in the option presented to senators hours before their vote: hobble the ACA and trust that a handful of lawmakers would be able to craft an alternative behind closed doors, despite failing to accomplish that very thing after years of trying.

What bothered McCain more, though, was his party’s strategy to pass their so-called skinny repeal measure, skipping committee consideration and delivering it straight to the floor. They also rejected any input from the opposing party, a tactic for which he had slammed Democrats when the ACA passed in 2010 without a single GOP vote. He lamented that Republican leaders had cast aside compromise-nurturing Senate procedures in pursuit of political victory.

In his 2018 memoirs, “The Restless Wave,” McCain said even Obama called to express gratitude for McCain’s vote against the Republican repeal bill.
“I was thanked for my vote by Democratic friends more profusely than I should have been for helping save Obamacare,” McCain wrote. “That had not been my goal.”

The polling is clear that people like the idea of bipartisanship and working together.
Sure it is a fairytale, but at least it is a more tenable one unlike promising a laundry list of free stuff you have no way of paying for.

But for the last 30 years or so the republicans have chosen to be against anything a democratic president or legislature proposes. I hope they choke to death on their stagnant game plan. The only way the repugs can stay in power is cheating and they will continue to do it as long as they can get away with it. Maybe Trump will open the eyes of a lot of people who chose not to pay attention before it’s too late. If he drags the whole party down and we flush them out then maybe his miserable lying ass will have served a good purpose.
