Democratic Primaries
Related: About this forumBiden Predicts GOP Epiphany
From Monday's K street fundraiser:
"With Donald Trump out of the way, youre going to see a number of my Republican colleagues have an epiphany. Mark my words. Mark my words, Biden said.
snip
On the same day Biden made his remarks, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) was just a few blocks away at the White House, boasting about how he blocked Merrick Garland from getting a seat on the Supreme Court.

For those who think this is part of a strategy it is clear ater many similar statements now that Biden believes it, even after eight years as Obama's vice-president and seeing their obstructiuon firsthand.

(25,342 posts)I wish more people could see that, but the opposite view is almost universal here.
Bleating out "screw the Republicans" at every opportunity probably won't go over too well with many independents, a group that has become more and more likely to vote Democratic of late.

(13,390 posts)I want a candidate who is 100% committed to Democratic values and policies. If compromises are to be made, when a policy is negotiated (not before the conversation begins!) the GOP can move to their left for a change. We have been creeping to the right at their behest for far too long.

(25,342 posts)Biden and a couple of other candidates are already targeting Trump and looking to sway all possible voters, including independents, with the general election in mind. That will only help the eventual nominee.
We need to appeal to them throughout the process, not just after a nominee is chosen.

(13,390 posts)They would rather call themselves independents because they know enough to be ashamed that they're as self absorbed and greedy as republicans. Democrats have enabled and comforted them for way too long.

(11,495 posts)the ones in the Senate and the House. I know there are anti trump republicans, but the politicians in D.C. are not going to do the right thing. They are putting trump ahead of the country, and even when trump is gone, they are not going to work with any Democrat in the W.H.
Remember what they did to Obama and how Mitch said they would make him a one term president?

(7,170 posts)He did say colleagues so if he did somehow get in the Senate or House without me noticing then you would indeed be correct. My apologies.

So tell me who are these republican "colleagues" if not the members of the house and Senate?
primary today, I would vote for: Joe Biden
He has been on city councils, in the Senate and Vice presidency I would infer that colleagues means a wide variety of things. To pin that down to exactly what he means by that would have to be clarified by him but to assume that it only means the house and senate one of which he never was is folly.
Thanks,
Eko.

(7,170 posts)Convinced that just because someone is a republican or conservative they are our enemy and have to be treated as such. Republicans are not my enemy, bad ideas, ignorance and fear are my enemies and anyone who falls prey to those. Ive seen more and more people fall to those recently. Its a shame.

(32,606 posts)Voters are fairly clear about what they would like from a Democrat. They prefer, by 82% to 11%, one who promises to find common ground over one who promises to fight for a progressive agenda; and they prefer a moderate over a liberal, 75% to 19%.

(13,142 posts)It's good strategy to assume that. It's good politics. It also has the ring of truth. It is only their success at lying, cheating, and mugging the Constitution that emboldens the Republicans. If they lost, and lost, and lost again, they'd change for their political self-interest. It's the reason they are changed for the worse right now.
