https://www.politico.com/news/2019/11/06/biden-california-dems-jorge-ramos-067045California Democratic Party Chair Rusty Hicks is unhappy with both Biden and Warren deciding to skip the convention, but Christine Pelosi, who heads the women's caucus, thinks it's the right decision.
I dont know that there are that many undecided people who worry if a candidate is not there, she said. I also think that the frontrunners have a different strategy which is, Am I going to spend my afternoon getting heckled by supporters of my opponent or am I going to build my campaign?
Pelosi said the risks to Biden could be too great because having a forum at a California Democratic Party convention youre just asking yourself to get booed, to get heckled ... If I were a candidate, Id rather do my five minutes, say my piece and move on, rather than sit there as people decide this is going to be their performative moment to try and shut me down.
Emphasis added.
Very good point, especially considering the obnoxious, juvenile behavior of some of the people at the convention in June.

(2,657 posts)Joe Biden has limited resources. I suspect that right now, Joe Biden is a lot more focused on the following four states than he is on California:
February 3: Iowa caucuses
February 11: New Hampshire primary
February 22: Nevada caucuses
February 29: South Carolina primary
Besides, if you reward rude behavior, it just tends to multiply.

(146,286 posts)delegate selection. Really, it has almost no function at all. Unlike in most states, it's easy to become a delegate to the CA Dem Convention. You just fill out a form and file it with your county Democratic Party organization. I used to do that when I lived there, and almost always became a delegate. Why? Because most Democratic Party leaders in that state don't really care about the convention.
It's not like the Minnesota State Convention at all. If you want to be a delegate to that one, you'd better have put in your time working with the local party organization. In fact, you probably will have to be an elected official in the local or district DFL Party organization. Becoming a state convention delegate is something you have to earn.
I moved to Minnesota in 2004, and immediately started being involved in my district party organization. I never did, however, get elected as a state convention delegate, although I was an alternate a couple of times.
California's State Democratic Party Convention doesn't really have much power, nor does it really do anything of importance.
Candidates know that, which is why Biden and Warren aren't showing up at it. There's no point.
