Sanders Rebukes Bloomberg: 'Sorry, You Ain't Going to Buy This Election'

CORALVILLE, Iowa — Bernie Sanders on Saturday unleashed his most forceful rebuke yet of Michael R. Bloomberg’s potential presidential bid, warning the former mayor of New York that he would not be able to “buy this election” and chastising his plan to skip campaigning in the early states.

“Our campaign is going to end the grotesque level of income and wealth inequality which exists in America today,” said Mr. Sanders, who was joined by Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a standard-bearer of the progressive left.

“So tonight we say to Michael Bloomberg and other billionaires: Sorry, you ain’t going to buy this election.”

“You’re not going to get elected president by avoiding Iowa, New Hampshire, South Carolina, and Nevada,” Sanders said. “Yes, we don’t have a super PAC and I’m not worth $52 billion.”

How many times has Bloomberg threatened to throw his hat in the ring, sniffing the wind? He's running as a spoiler this time. If he was genuine about delivering the presidency, he would have announced by April, like Biden did.

...and friendly. Warren and Yang brought up policies in their comments, but were civil. Biden's comment was about the nicest, and Amy Klobuchar was very nice too.

Then this "Sorry, You Ain't Going to Buy This Election" comment.

BTW, growing up (yes, in Brooklyn) we used to say "ain't ain't a word."

changes that don't allow billionaires to buy elections or government in the first place. It is less about enemies than instituting firm, fair rules - the fight 'to save our democracy'

Let’s say Mike Bloomberg decided to spend just 1 percent of his obscene wealth in his quest to buy the presidency. That’d be around $500 million — a figure that is certainly possible.

Do you know how many Bernie Sanders donations it would take to match that, at an average donation of $19? The answer is more than 26 million donations.

The point is, although the AVERAGE contribution is "$19.00" the average aggregate contribution per person is much much higher than that.

For example, there's one woman in Michigan who has given more than EIGHT HUNDRED individual contributions of $3.00 each.

Her average contribution? $3.00
Her total? $2,820 - she actually went OVER the $2800 limit and they'll get flagged by the FEC for that

Yet someone who gives $2800 in one contribution is bashed as a "big donor"!!!!!

That's the fallacy of this "average contribution" stuff. It's smoke and mirrors and painting a totally false picture of reality. But many people will simply read it and believe it.

Skipping early state contests might be one of them. Not being a Democrat until it is time to use the party's resources is another.

Any of the announced candidates can be criticized for their approach to victory.

I think Bloomberg should refrain from responding to this.

Yup - Bernie looks ill, but never mind, if he does get elected, he will have a VP who will then be Prez. All is not lost. The VP, probably somebody on the social democrat side, they will carry on the good work.
