"SNIP.....
Former Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick (D) told senior Democrats that he will enter the presidential race, according to two party officials, reversing his decision last year to forgo a run and adding yet more volatility to an unusually fluid Democratic primary, the New York Times reports.
Mr. Patrick was calling a list of Democrats to inform them of his decision and is expected to begin his campaign with a video before appearing in person in New Hampshire to file his paperwork to be on the primary ballot there.

(1,713 posts)The Atlantic just posted a long story about this is a move by Obama's inner circle. Good stuff. Obama's inner circle says people who are seen to Obama will be drawn to Deval. I don't know how to post it, sorry

(1,812 posts)I am surprised to hear these very bright people believe a Patrick Presidential Bid has any viability at this late date ...I wonder if this story in The Atlantic is accurate .

After this go round (so starting in 2028), no more initial mid to late septuagenarians (and thus mid to late octogenarians at terms end) POTUS's. Is is soon time for the Boomers to sail off into the POTUS sunset. Warren, if she ran and won in 2028, would be within 2 and a half years of 90 years old at the end of her terms. Harris in 2028 is fine, but Harris in 2036 (or later), nope sorry. She would be at least 80 as well then at the end of her terms if she ran in 2036 or later. If Sen Harris wins NOW, in 2020, she will be the oldest first time sworn-in Democratic POTUS since Harry Truman. Before Truman, the next Dem older-than-Harris new first time POTUS elect was James Buchanan, the POTUS right before Lincoln. The only other one in history older when first elected/ or sworn in was the first Dem POTUS ever, Andrew Jackson elected in 1828.
Boomers have already has almost 30 straight years at the wheel, I do not want it to be approaching 50 (or even longer as I will show below) straight years (Biden is technically a Silent Gen by 3 years and a month or so, so even older). No one generation is entitled to that long of a power run. IF Harris or someone very, very near her age ran and won at around a 2020 Bernie or a Warren 2028 age, we could, in theory, have (again with a blip for the even older near-Boomer Biden) non stop Boomer POTUS's from 1992 to 2052. That is 60 years! Just NO. Many millions of the older Gen Xers would be dead before they ever got to live under a younger than the Boomer gen POTUS in their entire lives. Hell, if that crazy string till 2052 actually happened, the oldest MILLENNIALS would be in their very early SEVENTIES before they got to do the same. I am 23 (right on the Millennial/Gen Z border), and my entire life until I was 57 years old would be under Boomer POTUS's (plus Biden) if that happened (and there are plenty of Rethug Boomers who will run too). Even the oldest Gen Alphas (post 2010 and onward born) would bloody be in their early 40's in that scenario. NO NO NO That is NOT ageism, it is simple multi-generational power equity.

(1,713 posts)"Obama himself is known to be an admirer of Patricks political expertisein fact, Patrick may be the only current politician whose skills Obama truly respects. That admiration is in part why some close to the former presidentincluding Valerie Jarrett, Obamas longtime confidante and senior White House adviser; David Simas, Obamas former White House political director and the current CEO of the Obama Foundation, who previously worked as deputy chief of staff to Patrick when he was governor of Massachusetts; and David Axelrod, the former Obama political strategistspent time last year trying to encourage Patrick to declare his candidacy for 2020. Two years ago, before the Democratic field began to coalesce, the ex-president himself urged Patrick to run, Obama aides told me at the time" The Atlantic

(673 posts)Maybe 15%? Probably lower then that in Iowa and SC. Besides that, he basically would have a very hard time even qualifying for a debate at this point.
It's just too late for anyone to jump into this race and be taken seriously.
