Cenk Uygur of 'The Young Turks' Files to Run for Congresswoman Katie Hill's Seat...

Not quite sure where to put this

Cenk Uygur of 'The Young Turks' Files to Run for Congresswoman Katie Hill's Seat One Day After Endorsing Sanders
By Marika Malaea On 11/13/19 at 6:53 PM EST

Cenk Uygur, host of the The Young Turks, a progressive online news channel, filed for Congress on Wednesday to replace resigned former Congresswoman Katie Hill.

The 49-year-old, alongside his co-host, Ana Kasparian, also endorsed Senator Bernie Sanders for president on their show, praising his approach to "completely and utterly challenge the system," reports The Washington Times.

Uygur also said the Sanders' strategy will be quicker and more effective in passing major, progressive legislation.

snip//

The Young Turks was created in 2002, launching from the Sirius Satellite Radio network with the goal of starting a liberal-leaning political and entertainment show. This morphed into a daily news video show on YouTube in 2015 which then expanded into more networks and shows.

If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for:
Joe Biden

Cenk Uygur: Forced to quit (along with another, less known founder) less than a year after they started:

December 22, 2017 ·

Justice Democrats Executive Director Saikat Chakrabarti and Campaigns Director Alexandra Rojas have issued the following statement concerning Cenk Uygur and David Koller.

“Yesterday, blog posts written by Cenk Uygur and David Koller surfaced in which they both made extremely disturbing sexist and racist statements. The entire staff and leadership of Justice Democrats was horrified by these posts. After hearing Mr. Uygur’s side of the story and talking with our candidates, our staff came to the swift and unanimous decision to demand Cenk Uygur’s and David Koller’s immediate resignation from their positions at Justice Democrats.

The words and conduct in Mr. Uygur and Mr. Koller’s posts degrade what it means to be a Justice Democrat. We do not feel that Mr. Uygur is fit to lead or participate in an organization that truly believes women’s issues and the issues of black and brown people are all of our issues. Mr. Uygur decided to resign from the Board yesterday at 11 PM E.T. and he has agreed to remove himself from any and all involvement with our organization. David Koller has also resigned as treasurer of our organization.

Kulinski: quit the next day because he thought Uygur was treated unfairly!! Freely uses words like "faggot", "cuck", "retard", "commie pinko fag"

Chakrabarti: proudly sports a t-shirt with the portrait of a Nazi collaborator who headed up a small army that attacked and killed American soldiers during WWII

He does have a history of being a conservative Republican, but that hasn't seemed to hurt Elizabeth Warren in the eyes of Democratic primary voters.

It would be truly amazing if Cenk were actually elected to Congress. This will provide a great test of the idea that progressive policies and fighting the Establishment will work in a competitive district. Uygur has some name recognition and shouldn't have trouble raising grassroots money. He could be helped if America's Dad, Bernard Sanders, comes in and campaigns for him in the primary.

Progressive Group Ousts Cenk Uygur Over Past Sexist Writing

The Justice Democrats ousted Cenk Uygur, one of its founding board members and a creator of progressive online network The Young Turks, following the Thursday revelation that Uygur had authored sexist blogposts in the early 2000s.

The left-leaning political organization, which Uygur and others established this year to support progressive primary challenges against Democratic incumbents in Congress, made the announcement Friday. The group also severed ties with David Koller, who co-founded The Young Turks with Uygur and served as Justice Democrats’ treasurer. A 2004 blogpost in which Koller used degrading language about women he and Uygur met on a road-trip surfaced this week as well.

“The words and conduct in Mr. Uygur and Mr. Koller’s posts degrade what it means to be a Justice Democrat,” Justice Democrats executive director Saikat Chakrabarti said in a Friday evening statement announcing the board’s decision to demand Uygur and Koller’s resignations. “We do not feel that Mr. Uygur is fit to lead or participate in an organization that truly believes women’s issues and the issues of black and brown people are all of our issues.”

The Justice Democrats board reached its decision to call for their departures after hearing Uygur’s “side of the story” and consulting with the political candidates the group has endorsed, Chakrabarti said.

Any candidate who writes sexist "essays" like that should be forever shunned. In my estimation, something like that is a permanent disqualification for ever holding elected office.

“We do not feel that Mr. Uygur is fit to lead or participate in an organization that truly believes women’s issues and the issues of black and brown people are all of our issues.”

She has announced. She currently represents the area in the California Assembly. She is a relatively young but longtime democrat who sat on her county's school board for about 8 years before winning the assembly seat from a repugh.

30. He denied the Armenia Genocide up until 2016
Thu Nov 14, 2019, 01:26 AM
Nov 2019

In 1991, Uygur wrote an article in The Daily Pennsylvanian in which he promoted Armenian Genocide denial.[23] He reiterated his position in a letter to the editor of Salon in 1999.[24] In a blog post in April 2016, he rescinded the statements. He went on to claim that he did not know enough then to comment on it.[25] In a segment in 2017, he affirmed the Armenian Genocide.[26] In 2019, he reaffirmed his acceptance of the Armenian Genocide.[27]

He was a genocide denier for years. Now he says he doesn't know, which is still not good enough! Yuck! How can you call yourself a progressive and deny the Armenian Genocide? Honestly, we have enough conspiracy theorist on the republican side, we don't need them on the left.

39. Bull.Progressive Group Ousts Cenk Uygur Over Past Sexist Writing
Thu Nov 14, 2019, 02:27 AM
Nov 2019

40. how can AOC run in 2024 unless Rump wins? Or are you saying Biden will be a 1 termer?
Thu Nov 14, 2019, 02:27 AM
Nov 2019

I do not see that (at least willingly from his end).

AOC makes it (the 2024 election) by 99 days age-wise. If she were 100 days younger, then she would not be 35 years old on the mandatory January 20th, 2025 swearing in date.

If Pete is getting blasted for young age (and he could be exactly 4 years YOUNGER and still qualify for the January 20th, 2021 swearing in date as he was born on January 19th, 1982, so if he was born the same day in 1986, he would turn 35 the day before he was sworn in) at what would be 39 years old when he takes office, what makes you think that AOC can overcome being 33 and 34 for most all of the campaign? Like I said, she only makes it by 99 days.

If Biden runs in 2024 and AOC primaries him, she will start a civil war in our Party. It will get really really ugly IF Biden truly runs for reelection. He will be into his early mid 80's by then, and will be the oldest mainstream, legit candidate (and sitting POTUS) ever. AOC will be basically the youngest even possible to run, unless you find a person born later in the year or into January that synchs up with turning 35 right before a POTUS January 20th swearing in year. That almost 50 YEAR age disparity will cause massive inter-generational conflict, and could tip the election to the Rethug if enough of the loser's supporters (by far more likely to be AOC's) get pissed off and do not vote in the general.

If I were to vote in a presidential

66. tell me how Sanders gets to 50% +1 on a first ballot
Thu Nov 14, 2019, 03:37 PM
Nov 2019

We all know that the super-delegates (who come into play after the first ballot) will NEVER flip to Senator Sanders.

As I have previously stated, I simply do not see a trajectory wherein even Warren plus Sanders combined get to that (50% + 1) point, but even if they did, it will be Warren with more delegates than Bernie, and she will not step aside in that case. Also, there is almost no chance that either's delgates will make an even remotely close to 100% clean break flip to the other. Every single poll that documents 2nd choice candidates show this to be true. They each have different bases of support, with SOME overlap, but certainly are not mirror-imaged.

If I were to vote in a presidential

Joe Biden

Thu Nov 14, 2019, 06:04 PM
Nov 2019

In the summer of 2016 he asked his TYT audience if in the general election they'd vote For Hillary or Never Hillary. 20,000 votes, 83% Never Hillary.

He said he was "borderline shocked" it was that high. OF COURSE (said in a Cenk voice) most of his audience hated the fictional criminal warmonger Hillary he'd been frothing at the mouth about since the year before. She was more dangerous than Trump! For him it's a show, entertainment. Who knows if he believed any of the propaganda, but gullible people did, and they thought he was honestly reporting facts and not conspiracy theories and lies. He voted for Hillary.

Now he's running to join the "establishment" after all the anti-establishment "entertainment." I assume his fans think he's "authentic." That's show business.
