Democratic Primaries
Related: About this forumStacey Abrams focuses on voting rights and keeps her name in the mix as a potential running mate
The speaker on this night, three months before the Iowa caucuses and a year before the presidential election, was Stacey Abrams, the Georgia Democrat who came within fewer than 55,000 votes of being elected the nations first black female governor.
Abrams was there to talk about voting rights. But, as often happens at her public appearances, a question came up: Would she be willing to serve as vice president?
Im happy to do so, she said, to applause and cheers from the crowd.
Abrams Iowa appearance points to the delicate needle she has been threading since her 2018 loss even as she has declined to run for Senate, saying she wants to focus on voting rights, she has remained a top-tier player in the Democratic Party, frequently mentioned as a potential vice president.

Putting this in primaries because she has been talked up as a VP for Biden. The day that happens, if no one else asks her, then I will throw my vote to Biden. That is a winning ticket and she will have a sure shot after four years. I doubt that Biden will run more than four. He will be helping to set up his running mate and he will choose wisely.
This is about Democrats thinking ahead about our future. Better believe it.

(16,950 posts)Reading through the article now. Voting rights is a fantastic platform for her with her firsthand knowledge and watching the dirty tricks in action. Ive really admired that she has kept to a very informative style even though she has every reason to vent however she wants to. She is a very skilled politician and shes just getting started!

She has done phenomenal work since her election/lost election. And here she is now in Iowa of all places. What does that tell you. Speaks volumes.
Think about that shes in Iowa as a non-presidential candidate and she has over 700 people they came to listen to her speak. Boom👍

(58,785 posts)I'm from GA. Stacey just doesn't have the stature yet. Her resume is very slim and limited to the lower chamber of our state assembly, and for all her popularity here, most Americans have no idea who she is.
We have better candidates to reassure America that all would continue vigorously and on track if Biden's health required him to delegate more of his work. We're going for the usual two terms of course, and concerns about age have to be covered with a running mate a majority of Democratic voters can already see as president.
I'd like to see for Rep. Abrams, and us, an important position in the next government where she could continue her current extremely important work with much more power. That'd set her up for further rise in 2024 and/or 2028. That still includes becoming governor of Georgia, every bit as big or bigger a position for a can-doer as even a Democratic VP could be. Georgia's governor is a head of state. Very big deal.
