Just saw a Bloomberg ad. I was surprised at how strong it was.

I thought his entry was something of a joke really,

Never have a chance.

His ad was very impressive.

Now I am not so sure what impact he will have. I suspect he will draw from Biden. His 3 term credentials is going to carry weight.

What do others think?

You can see the ad here:

If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for:

spend $$$$$$ to break the rightwing nuts out of that bubble and solidify independants in real american values. The right spends billions all the time on right wing radio, the internet, cooption of churches and Fox News all the time. I hope whomever wins, and i have no opinion on Bloomberg but many favourites in the democratic nominee race, runs on "You can vote for Republicans, or America, just not both" (i saw it somewhere). Anyhow. Good to see more airwaves and digital signals filled with actual reality and real values. I'm sure some of those Trump voters are tired of flying around like a baloon that it quickly loosing its air, this way then that, and would welcome the democratic message(s) grounding them. If only we get enough saturation.

where a sufficiently large number (though not a majority, of course, as we are obligated to parse the language) of Americans would vote for Trump -- except unlike Trump he's (probably) actually got the massive Scrooge McDuck vault of gold to swim in (that difference does not actually matter to voters, it seems).

Bloomberg embodies enough neo-liberal economics to lose the democratic-socialist voters, enough law-enforcement-racist-behavior-enabling to lose non-white voters, enough indifference-to-climate-caused-famine-half-a-century-hence to lose young voters, and of course is from NYC so will categorically turn off people from "fly-over" states just by virtue of being from the place they imagine thinks they are "fly-over" even if he's never said anything of the kind... etc.

What could go wrong?

and he's not just mouthing the right words without meaning them, what's the harm?

He has a job ahead of him though. To convince voters he is serious and qualified to follow through on his words.
Some cynical people may be thinking some politicians say things to buy votes, with no intention or skill to bring those promises to life.
(A bit cynical, I know. But once bitten, twice shy.)

It will take much more than a $30M ad campaign to do that.

He'll appeal to a wide range of people, both in the Democratic Party and on the right, as well as independents, and he's got the money to get his message out.

My biggest fear is that, failing to garner the nomination, he decides to pursue a third party path. I think he's too smart for that, and hates Trump too much to help hand him the election, but odd things happen to people when they come to possess obscene levels of moolah.

as Bloomberg in the statement proposed having the same effect (raising income for low wage workers) by increasing the earned income tax credit.

He argument is that an enhanced EITC would have the same benefits for workers, without depressing job creation.

I'm not sure I buy his argument, but it is more complex position than this non-contextualized quote suggests. He offers a different means to the same end.

Stop and frisk and his repentance just in time to run are so brazen and calculated. This policy destroyed lives and families.

Second, that third term he actually campaigned to have says to me that he thinks the law is something to bend to his wants or needs. How is that thinking different than Trump's? I'm not supportive of having the Democratic party be as vehicle for extending the second Gilded Age.

I am finding it harder to judge how "the average guy" thinks and why we aren't at 65% for removal.

In that context I think he will have a stronger appeal than the pundits are giving him.

Don't really expect any DUers to support him (but didn't expect any to support Gabbard either)

Sorry, but his stop and frisk policy, and his complaint that too many whites
were being targeted by the cops under the policy (though nearly 90% of the
people profiled were people of color) is unforgivable.

A lot of black and brown people, whose only crime was that they were people
of color were humiliated and traumatized. And told that the police state
conditions they were almost exclusively forced to live under were for their
own good.

When a judge ruled the policy unconstitutional Bloomberg, in his arrogance,
said that the judge did not know what she was talking about.

BTW, its a policy that Trump has endorsed.

If by some incredible miracle Bloomberg wins the Democratic nomination, I guess
