Obama Said He Would Speak Up To Stop Bernie Sanders Nomination: Report

[link:https://www.huffpost.com/entry/obama-bernie-sanders-2020-nomination_n_5ddd31a1e4b00149f724793b|

“Bernie’s not a Democrat,” one close adviser to the former president told Politico.

By Hayley Miller

Former President Barack Obama, who has so far taken a neutral position publicly on the 2020 Democratic presidential primary, privately indicated he would speak up to stop Bernie Sanders from becoming the party’s nominee should the Vermont senator make significant gains, Politico reported Tuesday.

Politico’s Ryan Lizza, who spoke to several of Obama’s advisers, wrote that the former president sees his role in the Democratic primary process as “providing guardrails” to make sure it doesn’t get “too ugly” and “to unite the party when the nominee is clear.”

Every one is entitled to their opinion. He isn't running for office and can say whatever he wants to.

But it's a politico article. Based on "sources". I wouldn't worry too much about it one way or another.

It's like the part of the story that says his speech a couple weeks ago about the US being evolutionary rather than revolutionary was a rebuke of Sen Warren. Maybe, but the article also says that the speech was a challenge to both the more centrist candidates and the further left candidates.

Sanders is like the Norman Thomas of FDR's day.

FDR was a pro-capitalist reformer who embraced free trade, internationalist-interventionism, wanted us in WWII unlike the socialist isolations of his day, and was called a plutocratic corporatist war-monger by 1930's socialists.

And FDR despised populism. Right-wing or left-wing.

Now FDR's the "role model" for the populist left?

Too funny!

Some serious "re-framing" goin on IMO.
