Bernie Sanders primary support - unsinkable?

Last edited Sat Nov 30, 2019, 12:28 AM - Edit history (1)

One the RCP averages, Bernie Sander's support has fallen (marginally) below 15% on three occasions - in the immediate aftermath of VP Biden's announcement, during Kamala's "that little girl was me" sugar hit and at the height of Warren's surge. Like DU's rankings, Sanders' numbers are extremely solid; not even a heart attack could take him down.

1. His narrow range may also indicate that he has a low ceiling.

Which would be a problem.

I'm a bit surprised that he hasn't picked up more of the 10% or so that Warren has lost since her peak. It seems that Mayor Pete is picking up a chunk of it, which is also a little surprising.

9. But, do they have more in common than Warren and Buttigieg supporters?

That would be the relevant question.

Also, her headline is somewhat misleading. Their supporters have a lot of things in common, probably a solid majority of factors and stances. There are certainly some key differences, but politically, they are certainly not polar opposites. Demographics isn't all there is to commonality.

2. Yup & Sanders will only go up from here. He's steadily climbing as his message gains in popularity.

7. The 19.5% was due to an Emerson poll

reporting Sanders at 27%. Emerson polls have been outliers for Sanders' support.

...Bernie's doing fine...

...they'll all be shocked when Bernie starts sweeping the primaries...

…Bernie will never get fair treatment or a fair shake from the 'system', so don't even look for it...

…but what Bernie offers IS resonating, big time...

...watch the polls...

...election day polls...

In 2016, Sanders had about 43% of the Democratic vote. This time around his has less than half of that with no sign of recovering.

18. But only 24% actually supported Biden in the same poll.

Even with the threat of trump's election - 22% wanted something else. If Biden appealed more to younger and college educated voters, he would be unstoppable. But he doesn't.
