Democratic Primaries
Related: About this forumAre you inundated with Bloomberg ads?
His ads are popping up on most web sites the moment I turn off my ad blocker. His ads are peppered on local and cable TV. His ads are repeatedly interrupting 10 minute long YouTube videos, for crying out loud. I can't get away from his ads.
The incessant and pervasive advertising is a huge turn off for me. I wonder why a billionaire would spend millions of dollars to land a job that pays less than a week's worth of his advertising budget? People don't get obscenely rich by being altruistic. The wall to wall advertising makes me less likely to consider him as an option. How is everyone else feeling about his carpet bombing advertising approach?

(1,812 posts)Yet his campaign will , to a greater or lesser extent , hurt the campaigns of moderates Biden and Buttigieg on Super Tuesday.. ..He can't win the nomination on his own so his effort makes no political sense .. The whole venture is an ego trip

(146,284 posts)They do not influence my choices. I ignore them, just as I ignore ads for psoriasis drugs and hemorrhoid ointment. Any candidate with the funds can buy advertisements. Buying my support, however, cannot be done.

(25,841 posts)stations go to live streaming. Certainly during disaster events. I just google for TV stations in or near that place, and almost always at least one is live streaming.

(7,277 posts)Unlike the candidates who announced in the first half of the year, and who have introduced themselves over months, Bloomberg is trying to shoehorn everything into a few weeks. After that he will have to offer a substantive vision, and policy platform before Super Tuesday.
I expect him to go negative by mid February.

(21,111 posts)Living in SF only saw them on MSNBC but not on local news.
And every time I see them I think why would I vote for an out of touch billionaire who has no clue what the average American is experiencing in the real world? Folks skipping meals until payday and the dollar stores crowded while you walk in a regular market and the lines are short.

(2,328 posts)His net worth according to Google is $54 billion. The $30 mil is about 0.06% (30 mil/54 bill=0.0005555). Warren's wealth tax is 2%, right? 2% of $54 billion is about $1 billion.
To put this in perspective, according to Google the average US household's net worth is $97,300.
Round that up to $100,000 for easy math and you'll see that Bloomberg dropping a cool $30 mil is like the average US household spending $55.
Running for president and winning would save him tons of money.
Edited to add: Running for president and losing would also save him a ton of money.
