Democratic Primaries
Related: About this forumJoe Biden is Obi Wan. Only he can save us.
An overwhelming majority of Democrats, and a majority of independents, would vote for a potted plant before theyd vote for Donald Trump.
Which brings us to Joe Biden.
Biden was endorsed by Nevada Democratic Rep. Dina Titus Monday.
Maybe Titus, state Sen. Yvanna Cancela, between a quarter and a third of Nevada Democrats surveyed (depending on the poll), and of course Biden himself are right: Joe Biden is Obi Wan. Only he can save us.
Biden is the right person at the right time, Titus said during a joint call with Biden and media Monday.

btw I'm not saying that Joe said this about himself... but he should discourage it from his supporters.

Even Joe, when asked who else could beat trump, said "they all can"! On this I agree with him.

(8,144 posts)does not need to disavow supporters claims. Supporters make extravagant claims, for instance, about their candidates singular ability to solve the nations healthcare problem, transform our political and economic landscape, address hundreds of years of inequity, insisting only they bring forward-looking ideas, the big and bold ones, to the table.
Today, Dr, Robert Green, civil rights leader, said that Biden will heal and unify the soul of our nation. He did not say Warren, Sanders, Pete Buttigieg, Michael Bloomberg or Andrew Yang could.
Should Joe push back by claiming that all the other candidates equally know how to hold different races, cultures, people with different educational backgrounds together, as Dr. Green suggests Joe knows best how to?

(3,022 posts)I just can't believe someone would be so shitty as to badger another member, ostensibly another Democrat, because they want the person they are badgering to call out Senator Sanders supporters for doing the exact same thing they are doing in their OP regarding VP Biden.
With that I feel comfortable being unpleasant about calling out someone else's unpleasantness.

(112,124 posts)It's hilarious that people only see what they want to see though. I can't count the number of times that I've read comments that Bernie is the only one that has the solutions, he is the only one, or something similar.

(112,124 posts)however, I did look at the OPs that I posted since Labor Day and didn't see any where we interacted.
I do seem to recall some statements along the lines of "Bernie is the only one" from you (those statements may not have included the word "save" and I may not have even posted in those threads, but they were dismissive of all of the other candidates). I'm not going to search for them since my brother just received a new laptop from his company because he had a major problem last week and he needs my help to verify that all of the proprietary apps were set up correctly.
So I'll take the opportunity to apologize to you for my error.

(2,177 posts)and I believe he is being underrated in the youth vote. That given, any of our candidates can do the job. I just happen to believe in progressive policies and not staying in the status quo. Many Bernie supporters seem to have to justify our support of him, and there are a few on here who can't seem to let a single positive post about Bernie stand, without making some kind of insult.

(68,552 posts)you don't, but I get sick of what I perceive is the whining of candidates who find themselves with low polls numbers...and I believe we win the popular vote overwhelmingly in 20-but what is that worth exactly? We have to win in the electoral college which is a different matter. Trump's numbers are not much worse than in 16, he could in the Electoral College so now is not the time to run left in terms of our nominee...three states-MI,WI and PA...if Trump wins those states...he gets four more years. There are moderate voters in those states who will vote for a Biden but probably not a Warren or a Sanders. I will vote blue no matter who.

(13,390 posts)and won't be until election day. We are stuck with projection, speculation, and opinion until then. Everything changed in 2016. Polls are not convincing to me and opinions are biased. I'm looking for a candidate who generates enthusiasm, is least attackable, most forward thinking, and has a been most friendly to the interests of me and people who matter most in my life. That means no saviors, no white fragility, and no support for patriarchy from me unless I have to make that compromise.

(112,124 posts)I changed the subject of the OP to the final sentences of the fourth paragraph. The original headline is not required except in LBN. I suspect that the article received far more attention because I made that change.
As far as comparing Joe Biden to a potted plant, please note that those words came from the author of the article, Hugh Jackson, rather than me. While I haven't made a decision about who I intend to vote for in the primary, Biden at least remains in my consideration while I have completely eliminated most of the other candidates.
It's an opinion piece, but it isn't necessarily my opinion. I try to post articles reflecting a variety of viewpoints, even if I disagree with those articles because it is a political discussion board. In the meantime, I'm glad that Biden received the endorsement from Rep. Titus and it looks like he will gather more endorsements from other Nevada officials.

If the political landscape shifts dramatically next year and Individual One is out of the running, maybe Ill reconsider who Im likely to vote for in the Texas Presidential primary.

(9,116 posts)Obi Wan's contribution was inspiring the next generation to reject the society the preceding generation had built. Luke, Leia, Han, the Rebellion... they were the saviors of the galaxy. Obi Wan was dead before the curtain fell in the first film.
It doesn't really matter what the author intended with the tagline. They're making still making a literary reference that is rather contrary to the message they're trying to send.

(1,701 posts)What I firmly believe is that Joe Biden is uniquely poised to beat Donald J Trump in the Electoral College--a considerable task in a strong economy, despite the utterly repulsive nature of this president--and that he is not only in a unique position for beating Trump, but he will also have the longest coattails and will help swing many races--including flipping close Senate races.
Time to be smart. Biden is the person to lead the party in 2020.

(58,785 posts)On top of all the important qualifications Biden brings, his broadly popular candidacy has kept the primaries from being characterized by hostile agents as the Democrats "in disarray" "unable" "as usual" "to get their act together," etcetera, etcetera.
Not that they haven't tried, and failed. We're doing good!
Another great value Biden brings to the race is setting a high bar for the others to match. In their own ways, of course. But 50 years of learning just how our endlessly complex and diverse nation works is not going to be one of them.
