Mayor Pete Buttigieg Responds to Protesters

Mediaite article, with video from C-SPAN:

https://www.mediaite.com/news/mayor-pete-buttigieg-responds-to-protesters-you-will-kill-us-thats-really-mean/

Mayor Pete took questions at a town hall event at Grinnell College in Iowa Friday, and as he wrapped up, noticed a group of students with banners sitting near the front.

“Do you want to go ahead and do the thing, here?” Buttigieg said, inviting them to stage their protest. The invitation drew some laughter from the crowd.

As the students tried to unfurl their signs, Buttigieg coached them, saying “You might want to pass it down a little so we can… Still can’t make it out…”

“Youth, hope, you will use to,” Buttigieg slowly read as the banners were being displayed.

“‘You will…’ no I won’t, ‘You will kill us?'” That’s really mean!” a shocked Mayor Pete said, promising “No, I’m here to help you”.

“‘Pro corporate funding equals climate chaos,’ that’s why I don’t take corporate PAC money,” Buttigieg said, commenting as he read.

“And ‘Wall Street Pete,’ I remember when they said the same thing about Obama, and then he set up the CFPB, put Elizabeth Warren in charge of it, and delivered some of the toughest regulations on Wall Street ever,” Buttigieg said, and added “So I appreciate where you’re coming from, I appreciate all of you coming here.”

but these were college students .. and most of the time they don't need a lot of help "fomenting" anything.
And god bless em' for it! And kudos to Pete for handling it like an absolute pro.

(and you're absolutely right about dissension, discontent and disinformation. let's remember that the Russians didn't really think Donnie could win .. their goal was a weakened presidency, and by extension country, for Hillary. but a bloody and divisive primary has always been the goal of the opposition party. same old, same old.)

For one thing, presidents are typically a lot closer to his age than the age of Biden/Sanders/Warren.

Buttigieg will be 38 next year, so that's 17 years away. Warren will be 71, so that's 16 years away. Please remove Warren from this discussion, as she is closer to the average age of a president than he is.

You did say "presidents are typically a lot closer to his age than the age of Biden/Sanders/Warren." In reality 55 is the medium age to first take office, and Buttigieg is not "a lot closer to" 55 than Warren. Just saying.

Yes, the average age is 48 for recent Dems, but why purposely continue that? I would vote for anyone qualified that's under the age of 80.

...has consistently displayed a preference for those on the younger side.

Of course, there are many other reasons to like Buttigieg. But I think his alienation of Black folks will likely prevent him from being the nominee.

“Shocked” misstates his actual reaction, which I’d describe more as “interested, pretending to be shocked, and maybe even a little amused.” The full video also shows his masterful response to another student on climate-change issues as well.
