Buttigieg pledges openness but cautiously

In his rise to the top tier of the Democratic race for president, Pete Buttigieg has impressed voters with his unflappable demeanor. But that moderate bearing is being tested as his opponents challenge him to reveal more about his two years working for an international consulting company.

In the face of new questions about transparency — most notably about his three years with international consulting firm McKinsey & Co. — the South Bend, Indiana, mayor says he is taking steps to provide transparency, though stopping short of revealing the clients he’s legally bound to keep confidential.

After shying away for months from criticizing her rivals by name, Warren has called on Buttigieg to release the names of his McKinsey clients, disclose his campaign’s most influential donors and open his fundraisers to the news media.

The questions appeared to have no impact on Buttigieg’s weekend campaign events, which drew large and excited crowds across Democrat-rich eastern Iowa. Former state Rep. Nate Willems, a 40-year-old labor lawyer and former state representative from Mount Vernon ... said, “He’s getting picked apart on Twitter, not among everyday Iowa Democrats.”

Doesn't matter who their clients are -- the work they do ends in misery for many.

Same with McKinsey if he doesn’t come clean. It’s not an attack to point out where a candidate is obviously going wrong.

And if you think it’s just Warren supporters saying this you’re wrong:

Your summary omits a piece from your own OP that was also resolved today:

Buttigieg to open fundraisers to press and publish names of top fundraisers after calls for transparency

CNN)Pete Buttigieg's campaign will begin to allow the press to cover his high-dollar fundraisers, the campaign announced on Monday after some of his Democratic presidential opponents called on him to be more transparent about the time he spends with top donors.

The South Bend, Indiana, mayor's campaign will also make the names of his so-called bundlers -- plugged in Democrats who help raise money for the campaigns -- public.

... Buttigieg, more than any other Democratic candidate other than former Vice President Joe Biden, has spent a significant time on the campaign trail at top-dollar fundraisers, building a substantial campaign bank account that has helped fuel his unexpected rise from small city mayor to top tier Democratic presidential candidate.

..."The mayor should be releasing who's on his finance committee, who are the bundlers who are raising big money for him, who he's given titles to and made promises to, and he should open up the doors so that the press can follow the promises that he's making in these big dollar fundraisers," Warren said earlier this month, tying the call to rooting out corruption.

Buttigieg's campaign, days after those calls, now says he will open his once-private fundraisers.

I fail to see why we should be encouraging our candidates to behave that way. He has now been released and will be soon releasing the names. That is what law abiding people do. What people like Trump do, is break their word, which is what Mayor Lightfoot would have him do. I know I wouldn't want to be in the position of depending upon Chicago to keep its word on a contract after reading that tweet.
