Liberals Mobilize to Stop Buttigieg

Progressive activists around the country are mobilizing to halt the momentum of Pete Buttigieg, who they increasingly view as a formidable threat to win the Democratic presidential nomination.

Top liberal leaders from multiple organizations are independently crafting strategies that center around three prongs: a heightened focus on Buttigieg’s checkered record on race in South Bend, Ind., his little-known work at the McKinsey consulting firm and an argument that his tempered policy proposals align with the wishes of large corporations.

The escalation of attacks against Buttigieg comes not only as he emerges as a next-generation alternative to moderate Joe Biden, but as he shows signs of undercutting a progressive’s path to victory in the 2020 primary.

“My expectation is that as he gets more scrutiny, he’ll come down. He has liabilities as a candidate,” said Joe Dinkin, the campaigns director for the Working Families Party, which endorsed Elizabeth Warren in September. “I think Pete is not going to hold up well to the scrutiny.”

1. Its to be expected. As long as there's no lies started on him, I'd say vet away.

How he handles it may very well gain him some support.

He’s not a threat. The media all talks about his “surge” where besides IA?

His poll #s with AA voters is abysmal. Nationally not a lot better. RCP poll avg 10.8

He could have a bright future I’m sure...run for congress or gov, achieve some real political accomplishments ... then

I don't see the threat either. Some Progressives are concerned that he is getting too much of his campaign money from the traditional donor class ;leading to an outsized influence in a future Buttigieg Administration

They try to win Iowa and New Hampshire, gain a burst of momentum and publicity, and use that to build up their national support.

As we approach the first contest, the criticism and attacks have grown sharp, pointy teeth. It's going to get worse.

Buckle up!

Personally, I can't wait until this primary is over. Then the real slog begins straight into November 2020. If I had my grandmother's faith, I'd be lighting candles. Might not help but it always made her feel better.
