Beto O'Rourke aims to satisfy the hunger for a bridge-building president, but it won't be easy

KEENE, N.H. — Beto O’Rourke has positioned himself as a voice of reason and healing in a time of rage and rancor. And among the students and local Democrats waiting to see him the other night at Keene State College in New Hampshire, hunger ran deep for precisely that sort of message.

“I don't want somebody who’s wishy-washy in the middle — la-la-la let's unite the country. But I want somebody who's not tearing us apart,” said Roshan Swope, 52, a kindergarten teacher from nearby Harrisville. “I'm looking for somebody whose personality and integrity can make some people in the middle, on either side, pause and give them a second glance.”

That is the niche that O’Rourke, a former three-term congressman from El Paso, is striving to fill.

In a large and growing Democratic field, he’s not the most hard-driving ideological champion, nor the wonkiest or most creative on policy. His pitch, to paraphrase, is that he’s a consensus-seeker.

Republicans don't want to work with us, because they don't believe in a common good. They believe only in their own selfish good. They hate us and take pleasure in seeing us harmed.

We did a pretty good job in the last election. Not just in Congress, but in local elections that are even more important.

Amazing how much you can do in your local Community. I just joined a local internet group.

Oh, boy, Devin Nunes has really stepped in something with his COWl law suit! Comedians are really riding that one.on CNN.

Young Joe Kennedy, who campaigned with him, AOC, who is fearless. She is not all mouth, the Lady was brilliant in her questions, well prepared. Swalwell, Schiff, so many they are hard to name

.
Our Leaders are disciplined, not nasty, but wih a wicked sense of humor.

10. This is so true. In the past we had shared values

And it was a debate about the details. Both sides cared about X and the compromise was between spending y$ and z$.

What kills me is when people falsely say both sides are polarized and why don't they just compromise. It's impossible to compromise on health care for all, for instance, when one side doesn't even believe every human deserves to be able to see a doctor.

Why Democrats aren't able to articulate this better is a mystery. "We believe in clean water, they dont. Or trump would have never removed regulation X."

Beto is showing us what needs to be done.

They have watched how mean, evil and bullying Republicans have become with leaders like Trump. McConnell, Ryan and the Republican Congress have done, tearing down instead of building up.

Even with the blue wave people like Lindsey Graham and Trump.think they can rant and rave, forcing others to do what they want.

This is the time for the force of reason to speak out. We need this from all of our candidates.

Those who bad mouth other Dems need to be weeded out.

I want Dems who are Inclusive.. not someone who has to hire 3rd party, stein voter attackers, as their senior advisor, press sec, and co-chair.

Anyone bad mouth another Democrat they have lost me.

I am sick of the rancor, backbiting to simply get ahead! It reminds me too much of the thing in the WhiteHouse and his sniveling followers in Congress and the loonies who try to use Religion to justify their hate.

The young are, too. I want new, fresh ideas we can build on.

Not for me. That includes all!

Made an impression on me was when asked what his program is he answered that he was on a listening tour!

You know that thing where you allow voters to tell you what they want? Something that has been woefully missing in the last ew years. Obama tried but without a Congress his hands were tied.

We tied Trumps in the last election, the reason he is floundering now.

Mitch is still trying to bully but finally a few decent Republicans are turning on Mitch.
