Mystal: There's not a public facing job I could have IN THIS COUNTRY w/0% support from white people
He has a point:

@ElieNYC Some friends wonder why I'm so *annoyed* at the Pete campaign Let's just say that there's not a public facing job I could have IN THIS COUNTRY with 0% support from white people Allen goddamn Iverson wasn't polling at 0% with white fans. We're not ALLOWED to have 0% white support. So the fact that this man gets to be taken *seriously* for President of the United States, on the theory that he'll *figure out* how to appeal to, like, ANY BLACK PEOPLE later, is just offensive to me. It is daily PROOF that this country thinks that black people are OPTIONAL. Obviously, I'm biased. My career REQUIRES keeping enough WHITE PEOPLE more or less on board so that I may be allowed to work. I don't even have the damn option of putting out a Tweet that I think ZERO PERCENT OF WHITE PEOPLE WILL LIKE. But living in that world for [checks notes] 41 freaking years... watching this great white hope get inflated PURELY on the good vibes from other whites, without even MINIMAL consent from non-whites, just sticks in my craw. It puts me in a bad freaking mood. If I want to spend ONE FREAKING DAY OF MY LIFE *truly* unconcerned with how white people think of me... I have to go "on vacation"... to Zimbabwe. And with that: sorry white folks, that you had to experience this moment of black rage today. I'll go back to impeachment now. https://threadreaderapp.com/thread/1209153949904842753.html

1. According to The Economist's Polling model, Buttigieg might be passed by Bloomberg soon.

If he falls to 5th place nationally, Buttigieg is done. ![]() primary today, I would vote for: Joe Biden |

4. Iowa should not be 1st in our primary ever again.
All this attention given to Iowa voters months before the first vote should be in SC where our most loyal base is.

5. Buttigieg has a clear racial advantage against Biden, Warren, and Sanders in Iowa.
Biden, Warren, and Sanders would poll better in Iowa if they were white.

8. Isn't that just math?
There are still 65% white people or so in the US population. It will still take a while until they are a minority and then the majority will be not white but also not all the same race.
A Democrat cannot have 0% minority support and win and if that is what Mayor Pete has, he's not going to be nominated by the Democratic party. Even if IA and NH give one "momentum" it would have to include the momentum bringing in the African American base of the Democratic Party. ![]() primary today, I would vote for: Joe Biden |

9. 0% is a bit of an exaggeration
Quinnipiac has him at 4% nationally.
https://poll.qu.edu/images/polling/us/us11262019_uaov53.pdf/ Other polls seem to be in the same ballpark. Ipsos/538 has the percentage that would consider voting for him at 16%. https://fivethirtyeight.com/features/our-poll-shows-buttigiegs-new-supporters-look-a-lot-like-his-old-ones/ He can't win with those numbers, of course, so the underlying claim is valid, but the claims that he has zero support and that no black people would consider voting for him are a bit of hyperbole. The 0% claim might have come from a Q poll in which Buttigieg had less than 1% black support in South Carolina. Not good. ![]() primary today, I would vote for: Joe Biden |
