Pete Buttigieg wants to broker 'peace deal' with Chick-fil-A: I like their chicken, not their politics
By Justin Wise - 03/26/19 02:07 PM EDT

South Bend., Ind., Mayor Pete Buttigieg (D) said Tuesday that he could one day be in a position to broker a "peace deal" between the Chick-fil-A fast-food chain and the LGBTQ community.

"I do not approve of their politics, but I kind of approve of their chicken," Buttigieg quipped, drawing laughter on "The Breakfast Club," the hip-hop morning show on New York's Power 105.1.

"We've got to find a way to use our identities to reach other people," Buttigieg said. "What can we talk about that brings us together? Because I have no clue what it's like to walk in the shoes of so many other people. But I can talk about some of the pieces of what I carry with me and see if it rhymes with their life experience."

"Good art has that. Good music has that. Good literature has that," he continued.

"Good chicken sandwiches," Charlamagne Tha God chimed in, before Buttigieg noted that good politics "ought to have that quality too."

Chick-fil-A has come under fire in recent years for its alleged donations to anti-LGBTQ causes. The fast-food chain also drew criticism when CEO Dan Cathy said in 2012 that the company supports "the biblical definition of the family unit."

Universities and airports have moved to ban the popular fast-food chain from their premises following the company's alleged support of anti-LGBTQ causes. The San Antonio City Council last week voted to bar Chick-fil-A from opening a new location at the city's airport.

Their politics. I prefer to shop at the local restaurants as opposed to a chain whenever possible.

And I live in the South. Maybe you can find them in college towns, maybe. Now really fried fish, there is a major opening for innovative small operators there, because the stuff from the chains absolutely sucks.

nearby. In the last 2 years we have seen open, Popeyes, Raisin Canes, McAllisters and Chic Filet to over saturate our local dining scene. The wife and I avoid them and go to the great selection of local spots.

Or as my wife often points out, I am oblivious

The Lee's franchises seem to be doing the best, sometimes those places are a circus, I have to pass one on my way home from one direction, sometimes on Sunday and Friday and any day at lunchtime, the parking lot is full and cars in the drive through are bumper to bumper to the highway. I have tried them when I jonesed for fried chicken, Lee's chicken is pretty good but the service is slow. I may eat fried chicken about once every 2-4 months, depending on what my body is calling for (sometimes it says "grease, give me more grease!!&quot , if I ignore it bad things seem to start happening.

They really do have a great chicken sandwich, and I find that the service there is second to none in the fast-food chain category.

We won marriage equality (Pete is proof of that) and Dan Cathy is dead. Let's declare victory and get over the past, that seems to be Mayor Buttigieg's message here. I salute him for being able to move on.

Pete seems to be all about apologizing to those that have hurt us. I am not Jesus and I am not in the mood. I have never eaten there and I never will. This kinda seals it for me.

And yeah, I got my gay marriage in 2008, but I don't exactly feel safe on the street and I don't think homophobia is over.
