The generational gap among black Democrats is very revealing

Interesting.

So...

Sanders + Warren have 48% of Black Democrats age 18 to 34 to Biden's 30%

Sanders + Warren have 31% of Black Democrats age 35 to 49 to Biden's 41%

That leaves open the possibility the age 50-64 bracket might be persuadable away from Biden by younger family members.

Time will tell if early voting results from Iowa and New Hampshire have an effect on this dynamic.

If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for:
Joe Biden

5. Wisdom comes from knowledge.

(snip)

To gain knowledge, one has to spend time and effort to know things by reading, listening, seeing, experiencing, studying, and getting familiar with certain things. Without interest or passion, one can hardly acquire knowledge.

To gain wisdom, one has to have knowledge first, and then use conviction to make a good judgment out of that knowledge. Without strength, courage, and confidence to make a decision, one cannot gain wisdom. No matter how intelligent or knowledgeable a person is, if he cannot distinguish what is right or wrong, he cannot be considered as a wise person.

To gain understanding, one has to have both knowledge and wisdom first, and then put them into action. He has to know, make a choice, and then practice that choice he has made. Without practicing and executing one’s knowledge and choice, he cannot truly understand or realize them. In order to have wisdom, you have to walk your talk. You have to do what is right, not just know it or judge it.

To gain insight, one has to have all of the above: knowledge, wisdom, and understanding. By persistently practicing and reflecting on them, one can gain insight and have more certainty of the future. Without patience, self-control, perseverance, and consistency, you can hardly develop insight.

In addition, all of that takes time. I am a heck of a lot wiser now than I was long ago. The idea of wisdom is usually associated with age because while the smartest of the young can learn a lot in a short time, those with the most experience are usually the oldest. So, while the young may have one part of wisdom..they usually lack the experience that comes with it.

What's the difference between the 26-year-old medical school graduate and wannabe surgeon and the 46-year-old surgeon? About 20 years of experience. If you don't think that experience makes a difference, ask yourself who you want to be operating on you.

To gain knowledge, one has to spend time and effort to know things by reading, listening, seeing, experiencing, studying, and getting familiar with certain things.

As young people grow up they will hopefully spend time growing, seeing, thinking, and experiencing life.

It is universally easy for people, especially young people who lack the knowledge that comes with life experience, to become inflamed, angry, and driven by rage, especially when such emotions are encouraged by populist demagogues. Every dictatorship has manipulated precisely this type of rage for their own ends.

With time mature people develop patience, self-control, and more nuanced views based on reason.

Liberalism rests on having a populace that is firmly grounded in an attachment to cool-headed reason. Which is what makes anger-based populism a threat to democracies around the world, both on the far-right and on the far-left.

Really? Drumph got 52 percent of the vote from those 65 and older in 2016 and his rating among them now is higher than with other demographics. So does that show a "more nuanced views based on reason" from those older voters?

Your anecdotal take to the contrary, I can match. I live in a senior community and am around older peope a lot. My conclusion is that people get crazier as they get older and definitely more tribal.

Otherwise, one simply waits for others to finish, to continue pontificating, instead of listening.

True growth comes from being open to the idea that you might be surprised... or wrong about the facts.

I look for that in a politician, because otherwise, they are really nothing more than an authoritarian.

Warren is known or liked particularly...not being mean...I just don't think Iowa matters nor New Hampshire this time. AA voters needed to see if White people would vote for Obama and when they did they moved to a candidate they already knew and liked. Now if Warren is not one of the top two than I think she may be in trouble down the line and maybe she needs to win one of the two...my personal opinion is Buttigieg is gone no matter- what win or lose. Biden is not expected to win either Iowa or New Hampshire so if he did it would be a big deal but it won't hurt him if he doesn't. If he is close all the better-it helps...however, he needs to win big in South Carolina.
