Democratic Primaries
Related: About this forumLiz Warren is the candidate that can chop the demented one off at the knees in a debate.
Shes unflappable and unshakable. She is articulate and can pivot in a nano second.
Shes 70 and looks 60 and has the energy of a 40 yr old.
She has great appeal to young voters.
The benefit of her 70 years has allowed her to grow deep.
Shes whip smart, has a very creative mind, and a global thinker.
While I like listening to Klobuchar and Buttigieg, and am impressed by many of their answers,
their answers are not enough for me.
Biden is wonderful but the debate stage puts everyone under the microscope and I fear he will have enough small moments of unavoidable shakiness that will detract from his views and remind voters of his age.
We have to bypass the MSM and not let them lead us around by the nose, tell us that every small story or latest poll has major implications and have us take our eye off the prize.
Thank you for listening...

(21,624 posts)Besides agreeing with her generally (as with Bernie), I really do think she has the best shot against the Orange Oaf.
Cheeto's great strength is that, to many, he's "entertaining" - and so much of politics is pedagogy.
There's where Warren's combination of encyclopedic knowledge, folksy persona, quick wit, and big personality will really shine through.
The 4 Big B's (Bernie, Biden, Bloomberg, and Buttigieg) all have elements of that - but none combine all those essential qualities.

(29,098 posts)He would believe he could out swagger them without even trying. And although he will blow a lot of smoke around taking on Warren his aides would lobby strongly against it. His polling numbers with women in general are tanking and he couldn't help being offensive. He might agree only if the process could be highly scripted and he gets the questions in advance....So maybe a FOX debate. But I still think it would be unlikely. He probably does get what's left of a hard-on with the thoughts of calling her Pocahontas to her face... But that's really all he's got. I mean could you even imagine!

(13,390 posts)angry white guy vs angry white gives him an advantage. The only people who want to see that kind of engagement are Trump supporters already. If anyone is thinking it over, they want substance during a debate and of the top three candidates, Warren has the best disposition to deliver.
She's more confident and less defensive than her opponents.

(14,708 posts)At this point he couldn't debate a child and come away a winner.
The wh knows that. They are saying he won't debate. For reasons.
Trump only wants to run against bernie. For reasons. He will be afraid of anyone else.
I like liz and she would do great. But biden will do much better.

(15,366 posts)I too thought that Klobuchar and Buttigieg gave solid performances. I particularly liked Pete's voice and tone.
I also liked a lot of what Steyer was saying. He seems to be deeply committed to Dem causes.
Biden did well, but I too believe that he would likely not be as solid if he is alone under the spotlight with someone like Trump, who will always do the unexpected and who lies like no one ever before him. I just don't see the "ability to pivot in a nanosecond" quality in him. At least, not as much as I do with someone like Elizabeth or even Pete. A "deer-in-the-headlights" moment or a gaffe could cost Joe dearly.
Bernie was Bernie. IMO, Trump could very easily bait him into anger. He could implode on stage as a result.
JMO.

(1,296 posts)Even in good stable times, she'd be an excellent president for managing all the small issues that make up good governance. And in these times, when we need big shakeups and contentious major reforms, she's excellently qualified for that role as well. It's not often you have both capacities in one politician.

(2,412 posts)Shes got my vote! I am also supporting Sanders to keep his ideas on the table. She will wipe the floor with Trump in a debate. This time we need him controlled so he cant move around the stage. The moderator at the last 2016 debate should never have allowed that stalking behavior.

(14,173 posts)So glad she is running.
I hope folks can also see through the attempted wedge some are trying to create between Sanders and Warren. Divide and conquer. Its so much tougher to fight both anti-corruption candidates. If they can knock off one, they wil then turn their horns on the one left. So please don't fall for this latest attempt to cause animosity between our two camps.

(464 posts)He's never been good at thinking on his feet. Give him a week or two, and he'll have the perfect come-back for most anything. But this is a 10-second world, now. It's not his age that has him hesitating. He's still sharp and knowledgeable. He's just not a quick come-back person.

(8,275 posts)my point is that his hesitating or minor stumbles are not due to his age.
Of course he is sharp and quick witted and has deep global knowledge.
Its not his age that has him hesitating, but low information voters might see it that way.

And while Hillary Clinton beat Trump badly in every debate, it still didn't win the electoral college for her.
Debate skill is nice, but it won't decide the GE, or even the primary race.
