Democratic Primaries

I see a lot of folks getting excited by Mayor Pete. I myself had some thoughts about a one two ticket with him and Warren. But I recognize my limited knowledge of his actual political record and thoughts regarding power, which is something that matters a lot to me. This article is long, but it is a bit of a dive into Petes book, and the thing that jumps out at me is how he sees or doesnt see regular people. What attracts me to Warren is her empathy, and her rage for justice (a book I read when I started in politics)
Talking about politics on campus, Buttigieg says:
In April 2001, a student group called the Progressive Student Labor Movement took over the offices of the universitys president, demanding a living wage for Harvard janitors and food workers. That spring, a daily diversion on the way to class was to see which national figureCornel West or Ted Kennedy one day, John Kerry or Robert Reich anotherhad turned up in the Yard to encourage the protesters.
Striding past the protesters and the politicians addressing them, on my way to a Pizza and Politics session with a journalist like Matt Bai or a governor like Howard Dean, I did not guess that the students poised to have the greatest near-term impact were not the social justice warriors at the protests [
] but a few mostly apolitical geeks who were quietly at work in Kirkland House [Zuckerberg et al.]

(532 posts)He came across as the perfect candidate. Coming from middle America he has first hand knowledge as to the reason why so many of his own constituents voted for Trump. He is extremely intelligent and has all the attributes that it seems American voters are looking for. You have already had a black president, almost got there with a female president, so are you ready for a gay president. I would love to think that you are. You have so many great candidates signing up for the primaries this time, it seems that its almost impossible to select the wrong one.
I am looking at this race from an Australian's point of view, but I'm thinking that if America doesn't want Mayor Pete, we could certainly find a position in politics for him down under.

(14 posts)This is a beautifully written article too. I believe the author is putting perspective on the right things.
You can even say the entrenched "merit" system is an example of real "deep state".
