Sanders can't win

He thinks he’s perfect but he has too much baggage and acts like the current ass in power. We cannot nominate this man who won’t hear a woman.

He flipped Warren off like a booger on television after the debate. He would do the same to me if I approached him - because I am a woman.

He will not get my vote in the primary for DOZENS of reasons (including Cenk and the fact that Bernie uses the big tent party for his own political gain) and he should not get your vote in the primary.

If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for:
Joe Biden

Ask yourself this question; "How many people in their 20's do I actually engage with?"

They are going to be voting next fall. "Occupy" was not a joke to them.

Maybe, it is time for people in their 60's and 70's to wake up and realize that the children of the "Greatest Generation" dropped the torch. But, it's okay because by the time climate change eventually takes its toll Boomers will be safely in their graves.

Personally, a couple of dozen. Online, tons more than that.

I don't just vote from my armchair. I'm active in many ways, although I no longer do street activism very often. I used to, but not any longer. I'm very active online, as you can see by looking up just a little bit.

I hope people in their 20s do vote. All of them. That's not the usual thing, though. The 18-35 year olds do not vote in as high a percentage as other age groups. That's been true for a very long time, even when I was in my 20s. I voted, but I was an exception in my age group then.

Today, it's still a minority in that age demographic group who actually vote in actual elections. Maybe that will change. I hope so.

You appear to be looking forward to my demise and the demise of others in my demographic. That will be "sweet," you say. I hear you. Yes I do. I'm listening.

He said it wasn't about the presidency last time, but his movement, transforming America. He knew the primary wasn't "rigged."

Now he says it was rigged ("Some people say that maybe if the system wasn't rigged against me, I would've won the nomination. I would've beat Trump" ), he honestly seems to believe that powerful dark forces really are the only thing stopping him -- the people agree with him on everything, non-voters and Trump voters will vote for him if only they hear him explain things to them, that he is the only one who can beat Trump. He has said many many times that the only reason we can't have nice progressive things is because Congress is corrupt. He is the only one who is not corrupt.

When you believe your own... Unfortunate.

"Bernie alienates his natural allies. He is completely ineffective as a lobbyist because he offends just about everyone. His holier-than-thou attitude -- saying in a very loud voice he is smarter than everyone else and purer than everyone else -- really undercuts his effectiveness. To him anybody who disagrees with him is a crook; there are no honest disagreement with people. Bernie's view of the world is that the great majority of the people agree with him, on all the issues, and the only reason he does not win is that the Congress is crooked."

One more thing, Biden has been around for a long time too, he also has a lot of baggage, republicans will use is act during Anita Hill fiasco as proof that he doesn't care about blacks, even though we know different, talk about the good that Biden will do instead, when you concentrate on bashing the others you are wasting that precious time to sell your candidate.

I do not call Bernie names, and I state factual info about Cenk and Bernie flipping Warren off like a booger. Wouldn’t give her a moment after the debate AND I state that Bernie won’t hear women! It’s all true and the post stands with 40+ recs.

I’ll say it again. Bernie can’t win the nomination. This is the forum to do that and I will continue to give my views and possibly write other OPs trying to move anyone away from Bernie in the primary.

Simple. Don’t vote for Bernie in the primary.

Had that been all of the OP then that would not be helpful to anyone. I stated some of the DOZENS of reasons he doesn’t get my support to make it a true OP. Not visceral loathing. You should really back off of that implication that I loath anyone. Seriously.

I'M VOTING FOR WHOMEVER WINS THE NOMINATION. I don't like bernie either, but if he gets the nomination, I'M VOTING FOR HIM. It has occurred to me that the media CEOs and the conservative party want us to get behind a candidate whom they know cannot beat trump! NEVER FORGET OUR GOAL IS TO GET RID OF TRUMP!!!! Do not let your personal feelings interfere with this one goal. I don't like bernie, but I can stomach bernie for 4 years, but I cannot stomach another 4 years of trump--it just too much!! Fri Jan 17, 2020, 03:11 PM

Warren started talking to him about Bernie calling her a liar, Bernie knew the station was pointing the microphones at them, Bernie asked her to discuss this later but Warren kept at it, so he turned around because he did not want the TV station to continue taping a conversation that would be used against them. It is that simple, not like you want people to believe.

I have not decided for Bernie or anyone else who is left, but this Bernie bashing is disgusting, and it should stop, we are not gaining anything from it, those who support Bernie will only be offended, that is a big win for trump.

The reason so many Bernie supporters stayed home in 2016 is because they were treated the same way they are being treated here in DU, which is supposed to support ALL Democratic candidates. Please stop this bashing, it will lead us nowhere.

http://centerforpolitics.org/crystalball/articles/did-bernie-sanders-cost-hillary-clinton-the-presidency/
There are many proximate causes for Clinton’s loss, and I think you can divide them into three broad categories:

The Comey Letter: Perhaps the best validated of any of the causes of her loss, there are numerous proximate causes here: her decision to use a private email server, the Benghazi witch hunt, her husband’s visit with Loretta Lynch on the Phoenix airport tarmac, Lynch’s failure to stop Comey, Clinton’s willingness to keep Huma Abedin as an aide, Abedin’s willingness to stay with Anthony Weiner, Weiner’s willingness to send sexually-explicit messages to people other than his wife, Comey’s decision to send the letter to Congress, and so on.

Exogenous events: These are harder to prove, but you could make the case for any of these items outside of Clinton’s control costing her those 78,000 crucial votes: the media’s constant focus on her email server, President Obama’s failure to nominate a Supreme Court nominee that’d drive African-American or Latino turnout, people voting for third parties, the Russian disinformation campaign against her, etc.

The Clinton campaign’s own actions: the failure to seriously defend Michigan and Wisconsin, the allocation of resources to stretch states instead of the Blue Wall, the focus on personal appeal (never high for Clinton ) instead of her policy positions (more popular than Trump’s), calling half of Trump voters deplorable, focusing on data analytics and voter modeling instead of actually doing the hard work of turning the base out, generally losing a campaign where she was favored and had more resources.

Certainly all of those are more compelling proximate causes than Sanders, but is Sanders himself a proximate cause? Again, I don’t think he is unless you assume that Clinton would have had no serious primary opposition. I don’t dispute the fact that he did end up costing her some votes. And her 78,000-vote loss was certainly slim enough that it can have multiple proximate causes. I’d be willing to state that Bernie Sanders might have cost Clinton the election if no serious primary challenger emerged in the counterfactual. In Pennsylvania, Clinton would have needed around a quarter of the Sanders voters who didn’t vote for her to have changed their votes to win. How many of those people were among the 20% of Democrats who didn’t approve of Clinton before Sanders even entered the race? My guess is most of those people weren’t going to vote for Clinton anyway, but I doubt we can ever be sure.

If you’re a Clinton voter angry at Sanders, is that more compelling than any of the reasons listed above? I don’t think so. And if you want Democrats to win back the presidency in 2020, wouldn’t it make more sense to dwell on issues that had a bigger impact, and focus on the ones that you can control going forward? I could understand relitigating the 2016 primary if it had caused serious damage, but the fighting appears to be based more on rehashing old grievances than actually winning voters back into the Democratic Party. Frankly, if there’s any Democrat other than Clinton deserving of Democratic ire, it’s President Obama. It was his neglect of the DNC (he’d been told that Debbie Wasserman Schultz should be ousted as early as 2012) that led to widespread grassroots distrust of the party. It was his naiveté that Republicans would actually consider voting for Merrick Garland that prevented him from nominating an African-American or Latino nominee to the court that could’ve made the Supreme Court a bigger issue for Democrats. And it was his administration that didn’t stop the Comey Letter or publicize Russian interference in the election. If you want to start an intraparty squabble, it’s those types of mistakes that the party should seek to avoid repeating.

There is no basis for saying that Bernie can't win, he is up in the polls afterall, and if Bernie supporters start feeling excluded because so many people say "Bernie is not a real Democrat", they may not have the incentive to vote for your candidate if she were to win the nomination.

This is a very unhealthy initial post, and those contributors to the bashing are doing a disservice to all Democrats. At the end of the day Bernie Sanders is representing the Democratic Party, and he should be treated as one, and with respect.

we will only vote for him in a general. Of course given his lack of AA support, he is unlikely to win a primary and will not be our nominee.

He has the same base of support as last time, and he is going to alienate Warren's supporters if he goes scorched earth on her (which it looks like he is doing). Biden is going to beat him the same way that Hillary beat him, with the same constituency.

I just hope that he gets thumped hard enough this time that he will shut the fuck up when April rolls around and he doesn't have any mathematical way of winning the nomination. We don't need another divisive Hail Mary for a brokered convention to overturn the primary contests.

I have preferences for certain candidates in this race (Warren and Yang, specifically) but I will vote for whoever is the front runner when my state's primary rolls around (i.e. probably Biden) because most of all, I support a smooth transition to the general election. I'll take any of them over that fucking hun currently squatting in the white house.

quote please link to it. And his supporters are not saying that either. And his behavior at the debate was appropriate. He didn't think that on that stage after the debate was the right time and place to get into a loud argument with Senator Warren with the cameras on and the microphones running. Who can blame him? And by the way, both campaigns have tried to defuse the situation since then.

Now regarding your contention that he can't win, of course that is a legitimate consideration. But other observers think quite the opposite and think that Biden can't win. But whoever gets the nomination we need to make sure that whoever that is does win.

Have significant differences, such as his populism that treats poor foreign workers, like Mexicans and Asians, as scabs. But he won’t win against trump or any other GOPer that replaces him. Same for Warren.

However, posts like this are super divisive. And...

yeah.

I'm not voting for him in the primary. If he wins the primary, I will vote for him. Because the other choice is DJT and he's a fucking moron.

My main issue with Bernie is the people who are most vocal about him. He doesn't irk me as much. But I think the people who are Bernie or Bust are so vocal about it and that they would never vote for another democratic candidate. That's a problem, and a problem I won't perpetuate by saying the same thing.

Meant can’t win the nomination as in shouldn’t.

I can have my opinion here and choose to say we can’t nominate Bernie.

You spin that “living in the head” stuff - nice try. He doesn’t occupy my head.

I will not vote for him in the primary and will continue to oppose him as the nominee here on DU’s democratic primary forum. Your spin is wrong.

The place for me to oppose Bernie is in this forum and the time for me and others to do it is now.

If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for:
Joe Biden
