She will bring voters from the mid-west which is far more in reach than the South. She will be seen as safe, stable and practiced on the campaign trail. All the other women are either too unknown on the national level or potentially too risky for the ticket. We here on DU know who Stacy Abrams and Val Demmings are but guaranteed most voters don't. It would not be a wise choice to go with someone who is not familiar to the average voter. It won't be Harris....She will get Attorney General.

I'm still a strong Warren supporter but have been around long enough to see how the PTB in the party will try to swing things...It's usually to the middle. I can't see it being any different this go around.

Totally makes sense.

Secures MN (a battleground state heavily target by Trump), reinforces the win in MI, WI, and PA. Likely helps swing AZ, FL, and NC. And adds to the coat-tails for down-ballot races nationwide. Job one, we need to win.

Job two, we need to pass legislation. Klobuchar has a fantastic track record of moving bills through Congress. She's done it, And has the skills to keep that going. No one comes close, in my estimation.

Job 3. Biden needs a VP that he can trust and who will be a true partner. Both on a personal level and he someone he can trust to take on big projects. Amy again is the natural choice.

Any VP pick must meet these 3 tests in my estimation. None does so like Klobuchar IMO.

That's why.

If we win these states plus those won by HRC we win. It is all about electoral college math.

Harris helps us win where?

Would Harris help move legislation as the president of the Senate?

Do she and Joe Biden share a relationship of mutual trust?

I don't see how Harris makes any strategic sense whatsoever.

Criteria 1: It is a lot easier to pick up one state instead of three. I think that he might be stronger in states with a large number of Spanish speakers such as Arizona and Florida. Advantage O'Rourke.

Criteria 2: Beto has worked with Republicans to pass legislation, although not as effectively as Klobuchar. Advantage Klobuchar.

Criteria 3: Draw.

Additional considerations -- Beto is viewed as more charismatic, more progressive and stronger on immigration issues than Klobuchar. His experience on the Foreign Affairs and Veteran Affairs committees can also be viewed as assets. He also has more potential with the coattails that could help Democrats add a half-dozen House seats in the 2020 election and in state representative elections in Texas. That could add two or three seats in 2022 and afterwards. Minnesota is projected to lose a House seat after the census.

It would be an excellent choice. Amy has been rising in the polls as the other lower tied candidates have dropped out. The more people see her, the more they like her. She has the influence to solidify Democratic support in midwest states like Wisconsin and Michigan. Remember, if trump loses even one of the ststes that he so narrowly won in 2016 he can not win.

Nevertheless, I still believe she will be the one he will choose if he wins the nomination. If he lives up to his expressed desire to have a woman then he will choose her, as she will be perceived as the one who can bring votes to the ticket and will not be too threatening to the moderates and right in our party. There are far too many on the left like me who will vote for a hunk of snail snot before we would not vote or vote for a Republican. And while I agree with many in the comments above that she is as bland as white bread, those votes in the Midwest are crucial to winning the election. They will count the numbers and she is the one who will add the most, or at least not lose any. Yes, my position is a cynical calculation. I think a mid-westerner on the ticket. is what can pull those electoral votes in our favor. Face it Tim Kane did nothing for Hillary vote wise in the last election. He's a lovely man with a multitude of great qualities and ideas, but he couldn't draw the votes from those key areas.

If the election looks like it might be close and if it looks like the ticket could carry Minnesota without Klobuchur on the ticket then I think Joe might look elsewhere. His main consideration of course should be is this person qualified to be president. But he also needs to pick a running mate who can help him win the election or it will all be a moot point.

Geographical balance that puts Texas and Arizona into play. 38 electoral votes matter a lot in a close election.

O'Rourke also served on the Veterans Affairs committee and Subcommittee on Emerging Threats and Capabilities and Subcommittee on Strategic Forces provides strong foreign policy experience.

He also has charisma and has been a strong critic of Trump. Meanwhile, he has shown the ability to work with Republicans on issues which would be a valuable asset as the tie-breaking vote in the Senate.
