Democratic Primaries
Related: About this forumRan into a Warren staffer at a Starbucks in Elkhart, Indiana
She was collecting signatures to make sure Elizabeth was on the ballot for the Indiana primary. Joe is my first choice, but I was more than happy to sign my name and tell her that I appreciate everything she and Elizabeth are doing for the party.
I think its important to remember that as the primary continues, feelings are going to get hurt as major candidates continue to drop out. If Joe doesnt win, Ill be excited to cast my ballot for whoever wins the nomination. Well need to come together to beat Trump in November.

(19,473 posts)Elkhart had a Democratic mayor and Indiana had a Democratic governor. Sad to see how it has changed over the decades.

(19,473 posts)I missed that.
I lived there 60 years ago (gasp!). In those days, Elkhart had a sizeable black community, but they were largely invisible and stayed literally south of the tracks. I had a couple of black friends in high school who dropped out before graduation and disappeared.
I was back there a few years ago for my 55th high school reunion and got the impression that nothing had changed, but I only spoke to the classmates who showed up for the reunion, so no doubt I got a narrow view of things.

Like you, I don't see letting our enthusiasm for our candidate make us ugly towards other candidates. I voted for Bernie in our CT Dem primary in 2016 because I wanted to make our party more progressive and I'm pleased that we progressives are really making strides toward this goal.
We're in it to win it and beat the crap out of Drump in the election!

(53,061 posts)Asking for signatures is a standard non aggressive technique to engage people and is used long after they have enough sigs.
I have a friend who is working on the Kelly campaign who goes out 2 days a week to gather signatures even though the had that number 3 months ago.

(6,377 posts)Indianapolis is a very liberal city. They could probably send a few staffers down there and have the signatures needed within an hour.
