Honest question about Bernie Sanders

It’s open to anybody but would love to get his supporters feedback.

If Bernie Sanders wins the nomination, will he run as a Democrat?

It’s that simple. In the past, he ran in the Democratic primaries, won, and then rejected the nomination so he could continue on as an independent without fear of being challenged from the left. Is that what he is planning to do here?


You want me to accept Bernie and support him. Can you guarantee me this won’t happen if I do?

It’s absurd to think he wouldn’t. He needs the party’s backing and infrastructure for his run. It would be the height of idiocy to refuse the nomination.

I guarantee he won’t do that should he win.

The party would still support Bernie over Trump, even if he stayed an Independent.

I wasn’t clear on the rules that govern when a nomination is turned down at the national level. And it’s not a ridiculous thought exercise. It was a legitimate concern, especially since he did it at the state level.

2. Logic dictates that if Bernie were to win the nomination, there is absolutely no doubt

he would govern as a Democratic President.

He has a most ambitious agenda and there is no way his polices could pass a Congress if he changed to Independent status as President.

He didn’t lose Democratic support when he turned down the Democratic nomination for senator.

14. There is a major difference, when running as a Senator, Bernie was essentially staying

on the outside to have more freedom to champion his issues and the people of Vermont.

Running as President is an entirely different ball game, should Bernie get the nomination, he knows that a Democratic landslide best guarantees his chances of having his ambitious agenda passed, to make a mark and finally turn the page toward aggressive progressive policies most representing the will of the American People.

Should Bernie win the nomination, G.E and get that landslide, there is no way he could as leader turn his back on the national Democratic mandate and hope to get his policy proposals passed though a Congress controlled by Democrats and Republicans.

He would be a man without a country and Bernie cares more about passing his policies and issues than any political comfort.

And if he isn't nominated, there will be no 3rd-party bid from him - as much as our Repug friends wish there would be.

Wouldn't surprise me to see Bill Weld run on a 3rd party ticket though (go Bill, go!).

Kidding about the part. I don’t know what such a “guarantee” could be or how it could be structured.

He said he would run as a Democrat. He signed a DNC document to that effect. He didn’t say that as a senate candidate to my knowledge.

The term “presidential candidate” herein shall mean any person who, as determined by the National Chairperson of the Democratic National Committee, has accrued delegates in the nominating process and plans to seek the nomination, has established substantial support for their nomination as the Democratic candidate for the Office of the President of the United States, is a bona fide Democrat whose record of public service, accomplishment, public writings and/or public statements affirmatively demonstrates that the candidate is faithful to the interests, welfare and success of the Democratic Party of the United States, and will participate in the Convention in good faith. At the time a presidential candidate announces their candidacy publicly, they must publicly affirm that they are a Democrat. Each candidate pursuing the Democratic nomination shall affirm, in writing, to the National Chairperson of the Democratic National Committee that they:

A. are a member of the Democratic Party;

B. will accept the Democratic nomination; and

C. will run and serve as a member of the Democratic Party.

This requirement of written affirmation shall not supplant any necessary qualifications a candidate must satisfy at the state level, but is in addition to such affirmations required by individual states and territories. The written affirmation shall be done via an approved format by the DNC Rules and Bylaws Committee appended to this Call
